Rising Stars: Meet Kamo Baby of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamo Baby.

Hi Kamo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Inland Empire and have always had a passion for creating and entertaining whether it’s music, videos, clothing, acting, etc. I love creating. But I’ve always had a thing for music. It makes me feel alive. I released my first recorded song when I was 12. I started taking music seriously around 17. I signed my first deal at age 19 under Detached Music Group under a clothing line named Pink Dolphin. Fast forward to today I am a 26-year-old artist who performs as Kamo Baby (often shortened to Kamo). My creative identity is closely tied to my skin condition called vitiligo, which inspired the name “Kamo” through its camouflage pattern and the idea of adapting across different styles. Music, visual branding, fashion, and long-term world-building are recurring priorities, and I like conversations that connect those pieces into a cohesive artistic identity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh man it has NOT been a smooth road. Having to push through the closest people to me subconsciously sabotage what I’ve been working towards, signing a deal young not knowing the ends & outs of everything & not being able to get out of the contract, being in the streets and experiencing things that come with that, relationships, all types of things have been struggles I’ve dealt with and preserved through and will continue to.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist, songwriter, and creative building a world around my music rather than simply making songs. My sound lives primarily in experimental, melodic, and modern trap, but I’ve always had the ability to move between different sounds and environments without losing my identity. That adaptability is a major part of who Kamo is.

I’m known as Kamo Baby, or Kamo, and the name comes from camouflage. I have vitiligo on my hands that naturally creates a camouflage-like pattern, and I turned that into something bigger: the idea that I can blend into any environment, genre, or culture while still remaining myself. That concept eventually evolved into The Veil — a creative movement centered around individuality, freedom, adaptability, and finding your own identity.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve never wanted to fit into one box. I’m proud of being able to experiment, take risks, and still come back to the sound and identity that feel natural to me. I’m building something that is bigger than a collection of songs — it’s an entire aesthetic, lifestyle, and creative world.

What sets me apart is my ability to turn personal experiences and even things that make me physically different into art. I’m not trying to imitate what’s already working. I’m interested in creating a world that people can recognize as Kamo the moment they see it, hear it, or experience it. For me, The Veil represents that freedom: you don’t have to be one thing. You can evolve, adapt, and still remain authentically yourself.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say adaptability. I’ve never been afraid to evolve, experiment, or step outside of what people expect from me. Whether I’m exploring my West Coast sound, returning to my roots in experimental trap, or building The Veil as a larger creative movement, I’m always willing to learn, adjust, and reinvent myself without losing who I am. I think that ability to evolve while staying true to my identity is what will continue to drive my success.
