Conversations with Amaya Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaya Hill.

Hi Amaya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been anything but traditional. I grew up experiencing a lot of instability, moved around frequently, spent time in foster care, and became a mother at 17. I didn’t have a traditional roadmap for what my life or career was supposed to look like, so I had to figure a lot of it out as I went.
I’ve always been creative, though. I started as a makeup artist over 10 years ago, and that eventually grew into a love for fashion, styling, photography, beauty, and storytelling. Social media gave me a space to bring those interests together, and what started as something I genuinely enjoyed slowly became a career and a business.
Today, I create content, work with brands, and have begun turning my creative skills into experiences of my own, including my Amaya Makeover Series, where I bring makeup, hair, styling, photography, and creative direction together into a full transformation.
I’m still building and evolving, but I think that’s one of the most meaningful parts of my story. I didn’t start with a blueprint, I created one as I went.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. I’ve experienced a lot of loss and instability throughout my life, and I’ve had to learn how to keep moving forward even when things felt uncertain. Becoming a mother at 17, losing my mom in 2018, and later losing my son’s father in 2025 were all experiences that changed me deeply.
Building a career has also meant figuring a lot of things out on my own. I’ve had to learn the business side, deal with rejection, advocate for myself, and create opportunities instead of waiting for them to come.
I think those experiences made me really resourceful. I’ve learned how to adapt, rebuild, and keep going, and that resilience is a big part of what I bring into everything I’m building now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work has evolved a lot over the years, but at the heart of it, I’m a makeup artist and creative. I’ve been doing makeup professionally for over 10 years, and over time I’ve expanded into hair, styling, photography, creative direction, and content creation.
More recently, I’ve brought those skills together through my Amaya Makeover Series, where I create full transformation experiences that combine glam, styling, photography, and creative direction. I’m really proud of being able to take skills I’ve built over the years and turn them into an experience that people can actually book and be a part of.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m not just focused on one part of the transformation. I’m able to see the full picture and bring all of those elements together in a way that still feels personal to each person.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve definitely had people who have supported me along the way, especially my family and close friends. Having people who believe in me, encourage my ideas, and support me behind the scenes has meant a lot.
I’d also give credit to the clients, brands, and people who have trusted me with their creativity over the years. Every opportunity has helped me grow, learn, and get clearer about what I want to build.
But honestly, I’d also give myself credit. I’ve had to create a lot of my own opportunities and learn as I went, and learning to bet on myself has been a huge part of getting me here.
