Conversations with D’Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Anthony.

Hi D’Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. My parents actually named me D’Anthony combining their names Diane and Anthony trying to think of what would be a good name if their son became a musician.

I always had a love for music showing interest from the time I was 3 when my dad caught playing the drums in our basement that his band mate kept there.

Growing up I started teaching myself instruments played at church and even high school band. By the time I went to college I was always skipping class so my parents told me to come home and chase my dreams which led me to move to Los Angeles.

I hit the ground running, going to any studios I could and meeting whoever I could to help me get an opportunity in the music industry. Eventually that led to me working with artists such as Ro James, Miguel, Syd (The Internet), and even gaining 2 Grammy nominations with Shafiq Husayn of SaRa creative Partners, and King Willonius (Creator of BBL Drizzy).

But now I’ve made the decision to step up from behind the scenes and put my own sound into the world as an Artist. Creating a new sound that blends R&B and rock and roll into what my friend and collaborator Jordan Hawkins coins as “Electric Soul”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely been a rough journey. Full of highs and lows. I think the biggest struggle has been staying true to myself when others try to shape me into what they want me to be, how they want me to sound or look. I feel like when you have your own vision you have to really find the people who believe in that vision as you see it, not trying to change it but enhance and elevate it.

I’ve heard a lot of no’s and had to part ways with a few teams in order to find my tribe, and it’s difficult to turn down opportunities that are right at the door of your dreams, but I looked at it differently, I saw it as proof that my dreams exist. And I won’t stop until I see all those dreams come to life

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Singer, songwriter, producer, and a multi instrumentalist.
I specialize in Singing, playing, and songwriting mostly known for my way of elevating others sounds with my production and writing style.

I’m most proud of the work I’ve done in the industry to take records that traditional sounding genres and taking them to a new world.

And I think what sets me apart from others is my authenticity, I love taking styles you don’t typically hear fused together and creating something new with it. I like to think of songs as if what if this Artist like, Jimi Hendrix had just started in todays time how would he go about his sound with how music sounds currently.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is taking care of not only my family, but others in the world who don’t have a way to build better for themselves. Touring across the world, being able to have the freedom to travel anywhere, and to impact others to love each other and live more positively.
