Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarahi Elguea.
Hi Sarahi , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my Makeup career at 22 years old working for Bare Minerals in Burbank. I was with that company for two years before I went on to be a Mac Cosmetics Makeup Artist. I was with that company for almost 10 years. And I’m so grateful for the time I spent there. I learned a lot about artistry, how to run a business and how to work well under pressure. I made some incredible lifelong friends and some amazing memories with Mac Cosmetics.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, not knowing if you’ll be successful, if you will have enough money to pay not just yourself, but pay any overhead if you decide to rent a salon space, buy supplies, insurance and any business cost that come up. It’s very scary, but making the leap into owning my own business has been the most incredible journey of my life. I wouldn’t change it for anything. I think the biggest struggle is self doubt. What if I don’t get any clients? What if my business fails? What if I’m not cut out for owning a business? Self-doubt is the hardest thing to get over.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently an esthetician. I have my own small salon where I offer makeup, waxing, facials, lash extensions, brow and lash lift and tints, and special occasion hair. I do a lot of weddings, Quinceañeras, and red carpet events. What people most seek me out for is Makeup and quinceañera hair. I love to do the big quince hair. The bigger the hair the closer to God is something I like to say. It just makes me so happy to be a part of all of my Clients special days, but quinceañeras are close to my heart. That is where I fell in love with Makeup when I turned 15.
I think something that sets me apart is that once somebody becomes my Client they want to be my Client forever. I’ve had clients who I met when they were 15 who have now gotten married. I’ve done there Makeup for prom, senior portraits, engagement photos, and baby shower photos. It’s just such a special bond between a Makeup artist and their clients. I love being such a big part of someone’s special day. It means the world to me.
I’m so proud of how much my business has grown in the last three years. Being self-employed has really pushed me into being my best self.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love pilates and learning. I’m always thinking of new ideas. What I want to learn next, how I can grow my business, and what can I implement to see more growth.
Pilates has really changed my life in the last year. I’m almost at 300 classes. One day I would love to open a second business and become a pilates instructor.
It makes me so happy to be busy and work out. It’s what I do for me.
