Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelynn De La Rosa.
Hi Madelynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey online started in late 2011 when I launched my YouTube channel — a space where I would talk about my outfits, favorite things, and makeup of course. A major turning point came four years later in 2015, when I was scouted by IPSY. They moved me out to Los Angeles, which completely changed the trajectory of my creative life. Suddenly, I had access to professional film sets, high-end equipment, and a collaborative team eager to bring my visions to life. Having those resources gave me the space to advocate for the things I deeply cared about — namely slow fashion, sustainability, and cruelty-free/vegan beauty, and eventually sparked a deep curiosity in film. I started with super 8 and eventually began making short films for myself and brands on 16mm — which was a turning point for my channel.
In 2019 I decided to pick up ceramics just for fun, creating under the moniker Maddie Cakes. What started as a playful outlet evolved into something much larger — my ceramic work has since been exhibited in several contemporary art galleries around LA, and I’m fortunate to keep receiving incredibly unique opportunities and collaborations in that space.
My work took another pivotal turn about three years ago following a spiritual awakening. I felt compelled to share the deeper, quieter side of my journey. This led me to launch my newsletter, The Art of Slowing Down, where I explore mindfulness and creativity.
I’ve more recently launched Madelynn’s Consulting Salon. After years of navigating the digital landscape as an independent creator, I wanted to build a sanctuary for other artists and creatives. Through the Salon, I help them translate their work in the digital space, drawing on over 15 years of experience creating online.
Today, my work spans filmmaking, ceramics, writing, and consulting. I recently shot a short film that is currently in post-production, while continuing to grow the Salon and explore new creative projects. It’s been a winding, beautiful path of learning to slow down, honor the craft, and help others do the same!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I almost laughed at this question! ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I started my YouTube channel when I was 19, so not only has my art evolved, but I have too. In many ways, I’ve grown up alongside my audience. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to let my work change as I change — and somehow translate that evolution to an audience in real time. Honestly, that may be the biggest art form of all!
There’s also so much uncertainty that comes with choosing a creative path because there is no roadmap, no guardrails. It feels like following an invisible thread…. a RELENTLESS invisible thread that keeps calling you over and over again. For whatever reason, you can’t quit. You have no choice but to follow it. It’s the calling on your heart that simply will not give up.
Is it exciting? Sure. Does it feel totally irrational most days? DEFINITELY.
I think a lot of artists know what I’m talking about when I say there’s a calling that won’t leave you alone. No matter how much confusion, doubt, or uncertainty shows up, the desire to create remains. There have been too moments to count where I felt lost, unsure of what was next, or questioned whether I was making the right decisions. But the thread is always there, pulling me forward.
Come to think of it, the challenge was never just about building a career — it has always been about learning to trust myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of Madelynn’s Consulting Salon. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Madelynn’s Consulting Salon is a creative consulting practice for artists, independent creatives, and brands who have a vision but need support bringing it into the world.
After more than 15 years of creating online as a multidisciplinary artist, I built the Salon to help creatives navigate the intersection of art and the world wide web. Whether they’re feeling stuck on execution, branding, storytelling, or simply how to confidently share their work online, I help them find clarity and create a strategy that feels authentic to who they are.
The Salon is NOT about chasing algorithms or forcing artists into a formula — it’s a softer, more feminine approach to understanding what makes their work unique and helping them communicate that in a way that connects with the right audience.
What sets the Salon apart is that it comes from lived experience. I’ve spent years building my own creative career across YouTube, filmmaking, ceramics, writing, and independent business, constantly learning how to translate an evolving creative practice to the internet and beyond. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your creative identity isn’t defined by one medium — it’s the invisible thread connecting everything you create. The medium can change, but the feeling, perspective, and world you build can remain unmistakably yours.
Something I often hear from the creatives who come into the Salon is they have many interests and ideas, but they’re searching for the thread that ties it all together. My role is helping them uncover that throughline and giving them the confidence to share it with the world.
What I’m most proud of is creating a space where artists feel seen, supported, and empowered to take their dreams seriously. The goal is not just to help creatives grow online — it’s to help them build a creative life that feels deeply aligned with who they are.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I think the biggest thing I’d want readers to know is that creativity doesn’t have to follow a straight line. Looking back, the thread connecting all of my work wasn’t the medium itself — it’s the way I see the world.
Growing up, I moved every few years and had the opportunity to experience different cultures and ways of life. I think the constant exposure to new environments shaped my taste, the way I create, and how I connect ideas. It’s always about the little details.
The medium changes — filmmaking, ceramics, writing, consulting — but the perspective behind it remains the same. That’s your thread!
I hope my journey encourages other creatives to trust their own timing, follow what genuinely excites them, and not be afraid to evolve. The internet is constantly changing, but there will ALWAYS be space for work that comes from the heart.
