Meet Rhiannon A Dominguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhiannon A Dominguez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a photo hoarder. Let’s start with that. I have a huge box of photos and digital files! In high school I had a 35mm camera and took it everywhere. I was that girl. My college professor really encouraged my art but I ended up dropping out of college, working a 9-5 desk job and met my husband. After our oldest son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, I quit my job and dedicated my time to care for our son. I started taking photography up again as a hobby 2 year ago and now I can officially say I work from home and I get to spend as much time with my kids as possible.

Please tell us about your art.
I grew up in the Myspace era. Who knew you were actually learning code and photoshop when you were customizing your Myspace page! I also took darkroom photography in college. I guess you can say I am somewhat computer savvy and digital photography was almost second nature. Black and white photography taught me to appreciate detail. Most of my work is very vibrant and crisp, I really love my subjects to pop! I love story telling through my lens and creating forever memories for my clients.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I was so afraid of not making it, I didn’t even try. I waited 10 years to pick up a camera again. The biggest issue for us was our son’s medical bills. I couldn’t quit my day job for a dream. But I did. Invest in yourself, the payoff will be worth it.
