Meet Karen Volpe of The Boobé Sisters in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Volpe.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The Boobé Sisters was the brain child of Leah Finkelstein. She came up with the idea in 2013 and contacted Heather Stewart and myself and asked us if we would like to wear matching dresses, desperate wigs and sing 60’s songs.

We stared as a Doo-wop cover band with a residency at The Cork Lounge in Corky’s Restaurant in Sherman Oaks, CA, the same lounge that Billy Joel performed in. We realized that when we started changing the lyrics to the songs and defined our characters, the audience loved it!

From then on, we became a parody comedy group. Our songs are about our purported drug use, sexual prowess and frequent run ins with the law, as well as our friendship and sisterhood.

We have headlined at comedy clubs throughout LA, Won Best of Fest at The Burbank Comedy Festival at Flappers Comedy Club, toured the country twice and have been seen on America’s Got Talent and The Gong Show.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since we are creating something that has not been done before, there are no rules which is great, but there is also no distinct path to success. We have been lucky enough to learn by our mistakes in a safe environment before taking that knowledge into a bigger arena.

For example, when we started, we played private parties and music clubs and were the funniest musicians on the bill. We thought, maybe we should try comedy clubs. So, we submitted to our first comedy festival and were accepted. We were not sure how we were going to physically play our music, we were not sure hot to cue our songs and we had to sing on one mike until we realized we could be a little more aggressive about getting the three mikes that we needed, but we still made such an impression that we headlined the Best of Fest Show.

We have been headlining at that club ever since!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Boobé Sisters – what should we know?
The Boobé Sisters are an all Female Comedy Singing Group with killer voices that specialize in song parodies to 1960’s music. We cater our comedy/songs for the event and work with the client to create specialized material just for them. Our show can be anywhere from PG – R Rated.

Every Boobé Sisters show is unique and our act is One of a Kind. We not only entertain with music, but we bring the party! We specialize in audience interaction, giveaways, contests and making everyone a part of the show. Like Jerry Lee Lewis, when we are done with our set, we set the piano on fire!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
What has really been an important element of our success is our fearlessness. We are not afraid to take risks and look ridiculous. We are a strong team and each sister is singer-songwriter and comedian in her own right. There is a power that is generated when we are together and we accomplish things we could never achieve on our own.
