Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia.

Hi Sophia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my hair business at 17 because I knew I wanted more than a traditional job. I wanted to be my own boss and build something that gave me creative freedom and self-expression. I specialize in braids, editorial hairstyles, and makeup. I’ve put myself out there through collaborations, networking events, and more! My goal is to expand into the creative industry by working with major artists, runway shows, fashion events, and other creatives who inspire innovation and artistry. I want my work to go beyond everyday styling and become part of larger creative visions and experiences.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part it has been a smooth road in terms of amazing people who support me and my business. One of the hardest parts in the beginning was creating a consistent form of income and building a solid clientele. Now about five years in professionally, I can say I’ve built something for myself in my hometown, and I’m very proud on how far I’ve come. Even if nobody understands your vision, never give up on your dreams.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sophias Cosmo Desire. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a licensed Cosmetologist who specializes in braids, editorial hairstyles, and makeup. I’m intentional with every look I create, and that shows through my work and the experience I give my clients. What I’m most proud of when it comes to my brand is the impact I make on people who sit in my chair. It’s more than just getting your hair done, I create a safe space. I specialize in box braids, cornrows, updo styles, editorial makeup, and work with all hair types and ages.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I love collaborating with other artists, whether that’s through creative photoshoots, trades, or other projects. I enjoy building connections with fellow creatives and creating opportunities that help us all grow, gain exposure, and evolve together!
