Rising Stars: Meet Jamari Colbert of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamari Colbert.

Hi Jamari, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a small kid from Atlanta GA, I was always interested in the creative arts, but could never find one that I wanted to do, so I decided to try them all from cooking to graphic design to clothing brands I finally landed on photography after being forced into the craft I realized my love and passion for creative imagery in both photography and videography. With the love of movies being pasted down to me from my mother I started with music videos and commercials which now motivates me to become one of the greatest director of photography in the cinema world. With a few extra skill on top!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the easiest road, but I can say it has been the most fulfilling. In a lifestyle where you try to make a living of something so intangible such a style. It can be hard to stay consistent. Without there being a guide or crash course on this path, you fall into situations such as imposter syndrome, and the idea that what you’re doing isn’t right, but I learned that if you’re happy and you’re doing with you want that is the right road to be on.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I primarily focus on and specialize in creative imagery such as videos and photos, but I love working on film/photo sets so much that I’m willing to do any position available. Camera G&E art department even the regular production side. As long as it on set I’m at peace. I’m honestly most proud of all my work all the accolades keep piling up with each new set I learn something new that I can add to my tool kit. I’ve learn incredible things from SFX to working a call sheet nothing is too big or too small. What I feel like sets me apart is my drive the want to do it because I love it so much I honestly couldn’t see a world where I wasn’t working on set to produce artistic work.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The first things that come to mine is drive and humbleness with these two things you can make it far and almost any industry, but especially the film industry. You can always be taught something, but people aren’t gonna teach you unless you show that you wanna be taught. I fill like my ability to be reliable, adaptable and the ability to take direction also make me stand out amongst the rest.
