Today we’d like to introduce you to Krikor Tchay.
Krikor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my professional art career in 2018 with my first show at GDCA Gallery in Downtown, Los Angeles, and I haven’t looked back since. Over the years, I’ve focused on developing distinct collections that reflect my evolving perspective, allowing the work to grow organically while staying true to my voice. That journey has led to opportunities like being featured on Roku Network’s “Best Bite Wins”, where I appeared as both the featured artist and a co-host alongside Josh Peck and Monti Carlo in Episode 2 titled “Food Is Art”, I have exhibited at The Other Art Fair in New York and LA as well as a solo exhibition at The Glenmark Hotel in Glendale, California earlier this year. Most recently, I’m in the process of being featured on Fox LA for Armenian Heritage Month, where I share both my work and the cultural roots that continue to shape it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m grateful to say it has been a fairly smooth road because I’m creating art on my own terms with zero expectations. The number one goal is to make sure my soul is satisfied with my own work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is rooted in a technique I describe as “Organized Chaos,” a balance between control and unpredictability that has become a defining element of my practice. Much of that evolved from my earlier Tangled collection, which laid the groundwork for what my work has become today. I don’t limit myself to a single subject or style. Instead, I focus on building collections that feel intentional, layered, and emotionally charged. What I’m most proud of is the journey itself. What sets me apart is my commitment to creating from an honest place; I’m not driven by trends or the need to satisfy expectations. While commissions are a natural part of the art world, I’ve been intentional about protecting my creative freedom, making sure the work always reflects my voice first.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I always encourage artists to put themselves out there. Go to shows, immerse yourself in the scene, and start conversations. Networking is essential, and while having a mentor can be incredibly valuable, it’s not a requirement. What’s just as important, if not more, is building a strong circle of fellow artists you trust: people you can share ideas with, talk through challenges, and grow alongside. The creative journey isn’t always easy, and having that kind of support system makes a real difference. Ultimately, you have to advocate for yourself! No one will do it better than you. The more you show up, connect, and stay engaged, the more opportunities you create for yourself.
