Today we’d like to introduce you to Orlin (Revol) Francisco Reyes.

Orlin (Revol), we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Orlin Francisco Reyes, who performs as “Revol,” was born and raised in West Side Modesto during the mid 90’s. Revol turned to music as his escape from the tragedies of a broken home, consisting of domestic violence, divorce, and neglect. His mother, who is of Afro-Honduran descent, raised him (along with three other siblings) on her own. From a young age, Revol was exposed to street life in Modesto while being influenced by hip-hop culture.

Despite early exposure to gang activity, street violence, drugs, and poverty; Revol managed to filter his thoughts and emotions in poetry and lyrics. Revol, as an artist and student of music, uses his creativity to share his worst and best moments in life. He is a conscious writer, and strives to give an insight of his personal thoughts and outlooks by manipulating the genres of hip hop, R&B, and urbano latino. After realizing his growing passion for the art, Revol decided to change his major from engineering to music instead of dropping out of school.

Today, Revol continues his artistic career as an independent (unsigned) artist, with multiple musical collaborations across California. Currently, he is an alumni at the University of California Merced with a bachelor’s degree in the Global Arts Studies Program, and pioneer in the Hip-Hop Movement on his campus.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My artistic journey as an independent artist has been anything but smooth. Finding a way to create an existence in an industry where there is no clear path, and being heard or noticed, felt almost impossible. Nevertheless, with faith and perseverance, I managed to make an everlasting impact through all the loop pools, gatekeepers, and doubters.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an independent artist in the music industry with focuses mainly in the genres of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Urbano Latino. I am a composer, writer, performer, producer, and audio engineer. Early in my career, I learned that I didn’t want to rely on anybody for skills or services I could learn myself. As a result I founded my own record label “Revol Music Group LLC” in 2016 as the CEO and have been operating solely ever since. Working individually meant I had to wear many hats and fulfill several roles at once. Beyond the creation of the music, I am my own manager, promoter, marketing, stylist, coordinator, event, planner, and distributor. This means I have full control over my art, craft, and its impact globally. I would say I am most known for taking a risk and making my dreams as an artist come to fruition. I am most proud of my communities, my cultures, and my background. I believe what sets me apart from others is despite the challenges and setbacks I faced in my life, I used my experiences to become a better person and half a positive impact on the world.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities and characteristics I feel have been most important to my success, have been faith in God, love, empathy, hope, kindness, and humility. These virtues also allow for vulnerability and a relatable depth which have been fundamental to my craft, and evoking of feeling in the music I create.
