Conversations with Brian VanGeem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian VanGeem.

Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I auditioned for Denice the Menace when I was eight years old and from there on I was hooked. My whole family loved going to the movies or renting them when growing up which fascinated me in being in entertainment. Acted in plays in grade school and highschool while making short films with my older brother Jason. Wrote scripts in college and decided to make it my career after my first script was optioned. Started my own production Company in 2010 and haven’t looked back since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We always had zero connections in in the industry, so it has been quite the learning curve on breaking in. I started a family young so it was a juggling act between my career and spending time with my kids. The ups and downs sadly led to a divorce where I had to press pause on pursuing my dreams that set me back four years. Important never to give up pursuing what you love. So grateful for all the affiliates and friends I’ve worked and collaborated with along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional actor, screen writer, film director, film composer and producer. I have directed commercials, short films, documentaries, and music videos and have written over ten feature length screenplays. I am most proud of our short film, “ Innocence of Agony” a WW 2 period piece which was our biggest project. I absolutely love entertainment and creative production. I have been at it for 26 years and will never ever give up pursuing my dreams doing what I love. I am a jack of all trades and a master of all.

What were you like growing up?
I come from a big family so it was hard to get attention from my parents. I was extremely goofy and charismatic always telling jokes and messing around in class. I was a bit of a dork and a late bloomer but once I figured out my stride and managed to get in shape I had a great adolescents and upbringing where my friends I made are still friends with me today. Art and creativity have always had my interest and it was frowned upon in a family of medical background, so it is still a battle convincing my loved ones this industry is the best fit for me.
