Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Schwimley.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Emma. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was young, I always loved to play with my hair. I remember getting ready for elementary school in the morning and finding different ways to incorporate braids into my hair and always got so excited to go to school and show all of my friends my “cool new hair”. Fast forward to high school, I’d find myself in the bathroom trying out new makeup looks, different ways to style my hair and amp up my everyday look. I started offering free updos and styling for my friends for prom and homecoming and a lot of my friends started taking me up on it! I’ve always enjoyed making others feel beautiful inside and out. When I graduated high school, I got a job working as a receptionist in a salon and spa, this was the moment, where I realized that I could make what I loved doing, a career. I enrolled in cosmetology school and really put my all into learning and making the most of my year there. I received my cosmetology license and started my own on-location hair and makeup business. I worked with multiple photographers in large cities in the state of Ohio. I traveled to weddings near and far. All while working at a hair salon. I ended up moving to Los Angeles to be in the heart and soul of the beauty industry. I am continuing to hair and makeup services for Los Angeles area on-location. I have been granted an amazing opportunity to assist a celebrity hair colorist at an amazing salon in Beverly Hills. I am so grateful for every opportunity I have been given and I am enjoying every moment of my journey.
Has it been a smooth road?
What a question! I would love to say that it has been a smooth road, but it’s had some bumps along the way, with most likely more to come. I would say that the biggest struggle in this industry (and other industries) is finding balance. You spend so much of your time devoting yourself and your time to servicing others, that your personal life starts to be neglected. You want to be the person who gives 110% to your career and you want to show people how much you appreciate the opportunities. I moved to Los Angeles for my career AND my personal life. This industry is intoxicating, beautiful, rewarding, but it consumes you. You get caught up in working long hours, working weekends and perfecting skills. It’s easy to come home and naturally be exhausted and want some downtime, but your friends and family want to be able to spend time with you. However, you have little to no energy left to give. It’s easy to complain, but here is the thing- TALK IS CHEAP. I am a firm believer that if you want something bad enough, then you will figure it out by any means necessary. I always stick to my word. If I’m invited to an important event and I said that I will be there, then, I will be there. The key to finding balance in life is to learn to say no. Pick your battles and know your worth. I have given too much of myself to people who don’t value it. I’ve learned that you have to give and take in this world. Most importantly, take care of yourself. You are the only person in this world that you have to live with every single day. If you aren’t happy, then what are you doing?
So, as you know, we’re impressed with EKS Hair and Makeup – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Who have you been inspired by?
All women inspire me. I look up to women from every walk of life. Every woman I meet inspires me to be my best self and to work hard. I’ve worked a lot of odd jobs, moved around a lot when I was young, therefore, I’ve met a lot of women. You find all kinds of women in all kinds of places. I try to take wisdom from everyone, whether or not it comes to a positive or negative encounter. I have met women who have come from nothing and have worked and fought for everything they have and that inspires me to work even harder. I have met women who have had the privilege and means to float through life and that inspires me to appreciate why I have worked for what I have and know that I have worked for every accomplishment I have done. You can be inspired by so many women in so many ways, it just takes a positive mindset and a motivated attitude.
