Inspiring Conversations with Veronica Warner of Key Code Education

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Warner.

Veronica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In an industry where technology evolves faster than traditional education can keep up, Key Code Education was built to close the gap between learning and real-world media production. Key Code Education is my professional home after many years in media education and I’m proud of the work I’ve done to help build it.

As part of Key Code Media, we’ve always worked closely with post-production teams, broadcasters, and media professionals, and over time it became clear that there was a growing disconnect between the tools being used in the field and how people were being trained to use them. Many people entering the workforce didn’t have access to hands-on, workflow-based training, and companies were struggling to find talent that could contribute right away. Key Code Education was created to help bridge that gap.

What started as a training initiative has grown into a full education and workforce development program. Today, we design and deliver certification-based training, corporate learning programs, and apprenticeship pathways that align directly with industry needs. Our focus is practical: teaching how the work actually gets done while creating structured pathways into careers in post-production, AV, and broadcast.

A big part of our mission is accessibility. Media technology can be difficult to break into without guidance or exposure, and we’re committed to creating entry points and supporting a more inclusive workforce, including increasing opportunities for women in technical roles which is a personal passion of mine.

Today, Key Code Education continues to evolve into a broader workforce development resource, helping individuals build careers and helping companies develop the talent they need to grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges has been establishing our value in an era where so much information is freely available online. With platforms like YouTube and TikTok, access isn’t the issue, but rather structure and real-world applicability. We’ve had to be very intentional about offering training that truly prepares people for professional environments.

We also had to quickly adapt during the pandemic, shifting from an in-person model to fully online and hybrid training options. That required rethinking how we deliver hands-on instruction while maintaining quality and engagement.

More recently, the emergence of AI in post-production has introduced another shift. We’ve adapted our curriculum to not only introduce new tools, but to help students understand how to use them responsibly and effectively within existing workflows.

These challenges have ultimately strengthened the work, pushing us to build better systems, more relevant programs, and a clearer connection between education and careers.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Key Code Education?
Key Code Education is a vocational training and workforce development center focused on preparing individuals for careers in media technology. We specialize in post-production, broadcast, and AV workflows, offering robust training on tools from Avid, Adobe, Ross, and SNS, along with emerging technologies like AI. Additionally, we offer supplemental curriculum for schools, a paid engineering apprenticeship, and custom training programs for teams and companies.

How do you define success?
We define success by outcomes. On an individual level, success means gaining the confidence and skills to step into a role, advance in a career, or pivot into a new area. For companies, it’s about building teams that are more capable and better equipped to handle evolving workflows. We could have a thousand people take a class, but if they can’t apply what they’ve learned in a real-world setting then we haven’t done our job.

We also measure success by relevance. If what we’re teaching reflects what’s actually happening in the field, that’s a win.

In the long run, success is about building sustainable opportunity for our students and our community.
