Hidden Gems: Meet Christopher Szamosszegi of Szamosszegi Skin Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Szamosszegi.

Hi Christopher, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got into skincare through the product side of the industry. It was around 2014, I was helping my boyfriend at the time, now husband with his skincare line, which helped me learn a lot about product formulations and the chemistry behind I.. We had some disagreements on the branding and some of the product formulations. So I decided to go off on my own and I partnered with a celebrity esthetician Mindi Walters in 2015. We had a pretty similar vision of what we wanted so I formulated our first product which sold out veery quickly. We had some great clients Like Megan Fox and Chelsea Handler posting on social media and we really took off. We had customers in over 40 countries and were really doing an incredible job with the brand, in 2020 our sales skyrocketed and we had three products at that time and were constantly selling out. We had some coversations about next steps and had different visions, she was at a different place in life personally and I wanted to rebrand a little more risqué and I we both decided that we should go our separate ways. This was around 2021 and I was asked to be a keynote speaker at a DEI summit in my hometown of Topeka, and was asked to speak at Washburn University. Which was such a great honor to discuss being a member of the LGBTQ+ community and tribal member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and how those things have shaped me as a business owner. And a year or so ago I opened up a skin studio on Santa Monica in West Hollywood, offering a lot of facial treatments and skin solutions. And it’s been so great to be able to meet some of the clients that I have and some of the experiences that has given me, I filmed a reality show “The Valley” for Bravo who was so much fun. Like, I got to have Daphne Guinness in my studio, and David LaChapelle who is an insane talent, so to have been able to see the art that they create and just just be one aspect of that is incredible.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never a smooth road running your own business or starting your own business. but I think that after doing it for as long as I have Ive been able to really know what my strengths are and been able to hone in on that.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m definitely results driven in everything I do, and I have a high standard so that’s a big part of how I have been able to succeed in my industry. I look at facials in a clinical way and while yes, you’re being pampered, you’re also getting real results. One of my favorite things is when a client looks in the mirror after a treatment and is so excited about how incredible their skin looks. I have clients that have been with me for years working on their acne struggles and to be able to improve their skin to the point where they don’t have to wear makeup to cover anything and see their confidence because of that is so fulfilling.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Always have passion behind what you’re doing. I get excited about the work I do, and look forward to seeing clients and working with them. I get excited about ingredients and talking about formulations, Passion breeds success, and I wouldn’t be able to get to where I am without that.
