Life & Work with Malcolm Aqua of New Jersey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Aqua.

Hi Malcolm, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am just a kid from New Jersey with many aspirations. Im an Aquarius, I’m thoughtful, I’m inquisitive, I’m a free thinker, I’m an enigma, I’m a left handed person that uses the other side of his brain and thinks outside the box. I’ve always been these things since I was a youth. I had to build myself and gain a better understanding of who I am. I’ve always had a several different interests but nothing greater than creating. I believe my whole life I was always creating things. I was creating games for my friends to play when we were kids. I was creating worlds and stories in my room with toys and art. I started creating music around 17 years old. I’ve created a growing media platform where my friends and I can create and thrive called “Indoor Voices”. I’ve created my own podcast series on the platform. I have written movies and stories that I have yet to share but one day hope to adapt. My whole life I have fostered my creativity. Growing up in New Jersey where the winters are super cold and the summers are extremely hot I was like most kids; playing indoor sports in the winter and video games and running around outside in the summer riding bikes. My childhood was filled with structure but I would find a way to bend everything I do in a different way to create a different version of what I was doing that I would enjoy even more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggles was really finding my sound musical and understanding what I do very well and trying to hone in on that. It took years of trial and error for me to get to a space that I’m at today where I believe making music for me now is quick and easy. I went through years of not sounding good, nobody wanting to listen to me, being called “trash or wack”. Publicly embarrassing myself at live events with subpar performances and cringe moments. My biggest hurdle I had to face was learning myself and not giving up on myself. Knowing that I can be great at this and putting in the hours to achieve my goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
To be simple and plain I’m a digital creative. My primary medium of creativity is hip hop music. I’m a writer at heart. I’ve written albums, ghost written for others, TV shows, Movies, Books. I’ve created events and platforms for other creatives to connect. I’ve created a growing podcast Network where myself and others share a space to create and entertain audiences thru insightful conversations and stories. My super power is creating and innovating. I believe I have a mind of great capabilities and haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
For myself I want to create a big enough brand and have a big audience thru music to the point where I can have a mass amount of people invested in all of my future endeavors which will eventually be media platforms and TV productions. I want my name and brand to be known as a trusted brand that people will be anticipating everything I do and everything my name is attached to.
