Today we’d like to introduce you to Oxana Konova.
Hi Oxana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an artist based in Texas , working in my signature style — Modern Russian Folk Art. I started by exploring traditional Slavic ornament and symbolism, and over time transformed it into a contemporary visual language. I paint, create wearable art, and design handcrafted pieces like kokoshniks, combining heritage with modern aesthetics. Today my work is focused on building a recognizable artistic identity where tradition, strength, and beauty meet.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was building recognition for a unique style that blends traditional Slavic elements with contemporary art. Growing an audience and being taken seriously as an artist takes time and consistency. There were also practical challenges — materials, production, and learning how to present my work professionally. But every challenge pushed me to refine my vision and stay committed to my path.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist working in my signature style — Modern Russian Folk Art. I create paintings and wearable art, including hand-painted leather pieces and kokoshniks. My work is inspired by traditional Slavic ornament, but I reinterpret it in a bold, contemporary way using strong contrasts, gold, red, and black. I’ve built a strong and recognizable visual identity rooted in Slavic heritage and expressed through a bold contemporary language. What sets me apart is the combination of fine art and wearable design, turning tradition into a powerful visual language that feels alive today.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to stay consistent and trust my own vision. Building something unique takes time, and not everything gets immediate recognition. I learned that discipline, daily work, and believing in your style are more important than trends or quick results. Over time, consistency turns into identity and recognition.
