Today we’d like to introduce you to David Vargas.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We didn’t come from fashion or have a blueprint for this. We built LOWLOW STREETWEAR from the ground up, figuring things out as we went and learning through real experience, not theory.
I grew up in South Texas in a small town near the border. My parents worked long hours as janitors, and on weekends we’d go to flea markets and swap meets to buy and resell products. That’s where I first learned how to hustle and make something out of nothing.
My partner Yadira was raised in West LA. We’re both Mexican American, both Chicanos, just from different environments but with the same roots. Our parents came from Mexico, and that culture is a big part of who we are and how we move.
LOWLOW STREETWEAR is built by both of us, side by side. There isn’t one without the other. We both handle everything together from designing, and running are own manufacturing, working with suppliers, running the store, building the brand, and growing the business. It’s a true partnership, and that’s what makes it strong.
It takes a strong woman and a strong man with the same vision to build something real. No fear, taking risks, moving like warriors and figuring it out no matter what comes. That’s how we’ve approached everything from day one.
LOWLOW started with that same mentality. It wasn’t about trying to fit in it was about representing something real. The culture, the lifestyle, and where we come from. Something people can actually relate to.
We built this hands on. Manufacturing our own products from scratch, learning how to operate a real business the right way, understanding systems, structure, and what it actually takes to grow and stay consistent. No shortcuts, just putting in the work and learning through every step.
A big part of our brand is community. We work closely with local photographers and artists, bringing that graffiti style, real street energy into everything we do. We’re not just selling clothes we’re creating a space and a platform where people can be part of something.
We also believe strongly in giving back. If we learn something in business, we don’t keep it to ourselves we share it. We guide others who are trying to start and help however we can. For us, it’s about unity, familia, and culture. Building together, not alone, and creating a strong foundation.
We want people to see that you can come from the streets, look different, talk different, and still build a real business. Where you come from doesn’t limit you it should push you.
Now we’re growing beyond our local community and expanding internationally, including building a presence in Japan. But the mindset hasn’t changed. We’re still focused on building something real and showing people you don’t need permission to create your own path.
LOWLOW STREETWEAR isn’t just clothing to us. It’s a reflection of our culture, our environment, and real life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There’s been a lot of pressure, a lot of stress, and moments where things felt uncertain. Building something from nothing without a guide forces you to learn everything the hard way.
We’ve had to deal with real challenges figuring out how to run are own manufacturing, losing money on mistakes, dealing with delays, managing inventory, and trying to grow while still handling everything ourselves. There were times where things didn’t go as planned, and we had to adjust fast or take the loss and keep moving.
At the same time, we were building this while handling real life responsibilities. It wasn’t like we had everything lined up or guaranteed. We had to take risks, stay consistent, and keep pushing even when things got tough.
But that’s what built us. Every mistake, every setback, every challenge taught us how to move smarter and operate better. We didn’t quit, we didn’t look for shortcuts we stayed locked in and kept going.
That’s something we stand on heavy. If you have a vision and you’re willing to put in the work, take the risks, and stay disciplined, you can make it happen. It’s not easy, but it’s possible.
We’re proof that you can start from nothing, learn as you go, and still build something real if you don’t stop.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LOWLOW STREETWEAR?
OWLOW STREETWEAR is more than just clothing to us. It represents our culture, our lifestyle, and where we come from.
We design and manufacture our own products, making sure every piece has meaning and quality behind it. One of our signature styles is our bandana pieces, which represent a big part of our culture and identity.
What sets us apart is that everything we create comes from real life. We’re not looking in from the outside we live it. From Chicano culture to street influence, it’s all real to us.
We’re hands-on with everything, from design to production to building our brand and expanding internationally, including Japan.
We also stay connected to our community, working with local photographers and artists and bringing real street energy into what we do.
LOWLOW STREETWEAR is about showing people that you can come from the streets and still build something big, no matter your path. It’s about culture, familia, and creating something that lasts.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First, each other. Me and my partner built LOWLOW side by side, and without that bond and trust, none of this would exist. This brand is built on both of us, every step of the way.
We also give a lot of credit to our families. They gave us the work ethic, the values, and the mentality to keep going even when things get hard.
Our community means everything to us. Our customers, our supporters, our followers, our day ones, our models, and our friends they’re not just supporters, they’re part of LOWLOW. The people who believed in us early, who wear the brand, who represent it in real life that’s what keeps this going.
We also give credit to the photographers, artists, and creatives we work with. They bring the vision to life and keep the brand connected to real culture and real people.
At the end of the day, LOWLOW isn’t built alone. It’s built with people, with loyalty, and with everyone who stands behind it.
