Exploring Life & Business with Sera Ramadan of Los Angeles Primary Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sera Ramadan.

Hi Sera, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Dr. Sera Ramadan, and I am the lead physician and owner of Los Angeles Primary Care. Health, athletics, and nutrition have always been deep interests of mine. I grew up as an athlete, and my family spent our free time together at the gym, doing home workouts, or going on runs. My vision of medicine was always rooted in primary care and preventative health.
When I started my residency in internal medicine, I quickly realized that healthcare providers spend most of their time putting out fires. Prescribing medications for conditions that cause side effects, creating new problems, all within the constraints of time and insurance-based reimbursement. I knew I wanted something different.
I wanted to open a practice where I could encourage patients to become the healthiest, happiest versions of themselves. A place with the warmth and familiarity of a physician who actually knows you, while embracing technology to make care more convenient and accessible. I also wanted the freedom to evolve and improve at a pace that corporate systems simply don’t allow.
The Trader Joe’s of primary care. That’s the vision. High quality, welcoming, and always a step ahead.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. The hardest part, honestly, is navigating the insurance system. As a physician, I’m constantly caught in the middle between my patients and their insurers, fighting for approvals, justifying treatments, and managing an administrative burden that seems to grow every year. Meanwhile, costs increase while reimbursements continue to shrink. It pushes you to constantly look for ways to optimize, find efficiencies, and offer services that go beyond what a standard clinic provides so that the experience and quality of care speaks for itself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Los Angeles Primary Care?
Los Angeles Primary Care is a boutique, physician-owned practice specializing in preventative health and obesity medicine. I am board certified in both internal medicine and obesity medicine, and my background spans a wide range of clinical settings including hospital medicine, nursing home care, home visits, and outpatient primary care across the greater Los Angeles area.
That breadth of experience matters. Having worked within many of the hospital systems in this community, I know how they operate from the inside. I have personal relationships with specialists across multiple networks, which means when my patients need a referral, they aren’t being sent blindly into a system. They’re being connected to someone I know and trust.
That’s something corporate and tech-based platforms simply cannot replicate. What sets this practice apart is the combination of clinical depth, genuine community ties, and the kind of personalized attention that’s becoming increasingly rare in modern healthcare. Patients here get a physician who knows their history, knows the local medical landscape, and is invested in their long-term wellbeing, not just the appointment in front of them.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That I genuinely love what I do. It sounds simple, but it’s easy to lose sight of in a field as demanding as medicine. The administrative hurdles, the long hours, the weight of responsibility can wear on you. But because I’ve been able to practice medicine on my own terms, my patients share and appreciate that same version of preventative health as I do. Most days it feels like a series of conversations with people I genuinely enjoy. That’s not something I take for granted.
