Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Gibbs.
Kimberly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I knew when I began college that I wanted to become a therapist. I felt a strong calling to support and nurture people as they navigated life’s challenges, and I couldn’t imagine more meaningful work or career path for myself.
Early in my career, I worked in foster care, group homes, and juvenile probation, where I gained invaluable experience supporting children, teens, and families facing complex circumstances. Those years deepened my understanding of resilience, systemic challenges, and the importance of a compassionate, steady presence in the lives of those with whom I worked.
In 2010, I transitioned into private practice, where I continue to help individuals and families strengthen communication, grow in emotional awareness, and develop healthy ways to manage their feelings. I approach therapy holistically, honoring the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and I remain open to integrating faith when it is meaningful to the client.
My hope has always been that my office feels safe, supportive, and grounded and is a place where each person feels seen, heard, and valued at all times.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a private practice came with a learning curve especially figuring out how to build visibility and establish referrals when no one yet knew my work. It required patience, consistency, and trust in the process as well as pushing myself to create community with other therapists around me.
Private practice can also feel isolating. Over time, I learned how important it is to intentionally build community. Developing relationships with other therapists for collaboration and consultation has been essential in strengthening my clinical work and sustaining me personally and professionally.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Balanced Waters Therapy, I have intentionally worked to create a safe, supportive space where healing integrates mind, body, and spirit. I recently welcomed an associate therapist, Samara Whitney to the practice, allowing us to extend our holistic, heart-centered care to more clients. I also look forward to having more Associate Marriage & Family Therapists join me as my practice continues to grow.
We specialize in blending CBT, Somatic work, and EMDR, thoughtfully incorporating faith when desired. I’m most proud of the nurturing, fully present space I bring to each session, helping clients feel seen and understood in the therapy room.
I’m known for consistently weaving mind, body, and spirit into therapy, guiding clients toward meaningful growth and lasting change. What sets us apart is our intentional, holistic approach while being able to meet each person where they are and supporting them in ways that feel authentic to their life and values.
How do you define success?
I define success as making a positive difference both in the world around me today and in the lives of the clients I work with, helping them carry growth and healing into their future.
