Check Out Kyle Gordon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Gordon.

Hi Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Kyle and I was born and raised in Thousand Oaks. Growing up I always had a fascination with art, animation, and technology, and knew from a young age I wanted to have a career fusing these fields. I had always assumed I would go down the studio animator route (Pixar, Cartoon Network, etc), however this changed when I became deeply inspired by music in my teenage years. I became enamored with and obsessed with the creative production of music festivals and concert stages, so when an opportunity arose to intern at LA based Possible Productions in 2012, I took the plunge into the world of concert visuals and never looked back. Within a few years I co-founded my first production studio called Melt Creative, spending my weeks in Los Feliz creating animations and my weekends running visuals (VJing) on tour for some of my favorite EDM artists. In 2018 I founded my own experiential design company called Studio ZIRO, continuing my previous work until the pandemic hit in 2020 which wiped out all my client work. During this time, my work began to shift from irl to virtual experiences and through a combination of increased online time and exploration of new creative opportunities, I stumbled upon the Web3 and NFT space. Many digital artists like myself finally felt there was a new path forward as “Artists” vs just studio/contract workers, and we found much success as Artists in the Web3 and NFT space. I ended up co-founding a new startup during this time at the intersection of digital art and social impact, however when the cryptocurrency market imploded, I once again had to pivot into something new since our product was no longer sustainable. This led me to the projects I currently focus on which are a combination of all my prior experiences along with my new passion for interior design and architecture. The past few years I’ve been designing spaces that fuse art, light, technology, and experiential design to elevate the human experience.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist, especially a digital one, means wearing many hats and being a jack of many trades. This means you constantly need to reinvent yourself, learn new tools, explore new outlets to share your work, and often manage multiple streams of income. The biggest struggles, that while fine in my 20s were acceptable but now are unsustainable in my 30s+, were finding clients/projects that avoided extreme turnarounds, unrealistic timelines, constrained budgets, crazy travel requirements, etc. Health and relationships are your wealth, don’t forget to give them the attention they deserve before it’s too late.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an award winning multidisciplinary artist, creative director, experiential designer, and entrepreneur. My work is heavily influenced by my love of organic patterns, music, alternate realities, manga/anime, life adventures, and human connection.

I’ve spent the better part of the last decade creating immersive experiences, large-scale installations, interior spaces, brand identities, and multidimensional media for internationally acclaimed musicians, music and cultural festivals, social entrepreneurship/ nonprofit organizations, and globally recognized brands.

Through my creative practice and various business endeavors, I’ve been exploring ways of elevating the human experience via interactive/immersive experiences, human-centric activations, and creative spaces. My work has been featured by international exhibitions, festivals, and global brands such as HP, Coachella, and the #CarbonDrop (alongside Beeple, Refik Anadol, etc.), and more.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Playing lots of video games on the N64/Gameboy (Mario, Pokemon, etc) and eventually graduating to the PC (Runescape, Maplestory, and World of Warcraft).
