Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Meade.
Hi Chris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in Northeast Connecticut in a farm town I realized that there was not an outlet for entrepreneurship. Growing up in a town where it was customary to work 40+ years at the same place, living for the weekends and your annual 3% pay raise was not a life I wanted to live. When I had one night to leave my corporate job to start my first company called CROSSNET, I quickly realized that the dream life of entrepreneurship was a million times harder than I ever expected. It actually took years to make meaningful money, was non stop work and stress, as a founder you always paid yourself last and every day was just figuring out how to be more resilient than the last.
As I began getting more comfortable sharing my story online, I realized there were thousands of other entrepreneurs who felt the same way. Why was there a community for everything (running, yoga, chess) but business?!? It made no sense and my co-founder, Aaron Spivak, felt the same thing. We set out to change that with The Founders Club.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the early days people had no idea what they were showing up for or may not even show up at all. We’d fly across the country, only to find 4 people showed up when 40 were registered. We’d show up to a restaurant and they’d have cancelled our reservation without telling us. The community has grown so much into what it is today, but we were legit building the plane while it flys. Now you get access to:
– Access to thousands of 7, 8, 9 figure founders (verified financials required)
– 150+ free events a year, 2-3 monthly in core cities
– Weekly guest speakers (Mark Cuban, Starbucks Co-Founder, etc.)
– Strategically created in-person or virtual mastermind group you meet with monthly
– Beyond active digital community
– Free invite to The Forum (our entrepreneurial Bonnaroo)
– Annual retreat to Mexico
– Mens & Female weekend retreats
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We’re seeing a huge shift and revival to in-person events and community in a time where everything is led with AI and people are glued to their phones. As the job force continues to get trimmed with AI, founders and people overall will crave offline connection.
