Conversations with Hana Diep

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hana Diep.

Hi Hana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in the rolling hills of Dalat , Vietnam, we didn’t have much. Before I was known for the precision of my tweezers, I was known for the speed of my feet, racing to the stalls the second the school bell rang. While my friends were playing near the lake, I was weaving through the market crowds with bundles of thin plastic bags tucked under my arm.
I sold them to shoppers for about 10 cents a bag where my mother worked for a vendor at the street market .
The highlight of my day wasn’t selling the bags; it was passing by the nail vendor tucked into a tiny corner of the market. I’d linger at her stall as long as I could, watching her transform rough, hardworking hands into something beautiful with just a small brush and a bottle of polish.
Even when I had a pocket full of plastic bags to sell, my eyes were always on the art of the face and hair. I was obsessed with the idea of making people “prettier.” I’d go home and practice makeup looks on my cousins using whatever I could find, or spend hours watching video on my phone and magazines. I didn’t just want to survive the market; I wanted to create beauty in the middle of it. I knew then that my hands were meant to transform how a woman feels when she looks.

When I finally moved to Irvine to start my journey in the beauty industry, it was a close friend of mine—already a skilled lash technician—who first introduced me to the craft. Starting as an apprentice, I was fortunate to be mentored by local experts who refined my technical skills with encouragement and fueled my passion for the industry as I established my small studio Irvine.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road! The early days were a whirlwind of late nights and steep learning curves. My biggest hurdles were the hustle of finding my first consistent clients and the long search for a studio space that felt like home. It took a lot of trial and error, but those struggles taught me exactly what kind of experience I wanted to create for my guests

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Lash Artist and Esthetician specializing in bespoke lash design that enhances a woman’s natural features. My work is defined by technical passion for beauty and a deep understanding of facial symmetry. I don’t believe in “one size fits all” lashes; I specialize in creating looks that are as unique as the women wearing them.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just apply lashes; I use my hands to recreate the same sense of beauty and transformation I’ve admired since childhood. I bring a lifetime of obsession with the ‘art of the face’ to every appointment, ensuring each client leaves with a look that elevates their natural beauty.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters is ensuring that my technical precision serves to highlight what is already there, making my clients feel “prettier” and more empowered in their daily lives.
