Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Malouf.
Hi Evan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I recently started Carnival of Masks with my wife, Charise Sowells, after we went to Carnevale in Venice, Italy for the first time. It was such a magical experience that it inspired the formation of our company. Up to that point, I had worked in a variety of different industries including finance, manufacturing, and the building trades. I studied economics in college and have lived in multiple states throughout the country.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road! LOL Living in multiple states and working in multiple different industries has presented a variety of challenges that have proven to be incredibly stressful and, in the same breath, unbelievably rewarding. Shying away from something because it is difficult or because others think it’s a bad idea (because they don’t understand it) is never the way to go. Life presents a multitude of challenges which are opportunities for growth that make it even more rewarding when you succeed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Carnival of Masks is the premiere global hub for the costumed event scene. We are focused on community and connecting the dots between professionals across different costumed event categories and countries. I am very proud to be a part of our incredible community, a diverse and vibrant group of unbelievably talented creators and truly dedicated attendees.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be open. You never know where a mentor can show up. When you find one (or they find you), I think it is important to be vulnerable and honest but also let things roll off. At the end of the day, everything is a numbers game, You may get lucky with someone right off the bat or you may have to keep searching for a while. Tenacity and consistency are key.
