Life & Work with Clyde Corley of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clyde Corley.

Hi Clyde, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am just about 10 years into a blessed career as an Art Director. My profession has allowed me to work with friends, dream clients and create for a living. This freedom and constant creative practice deeply informs my work. It gives me the freedom to create sculpture and paintings that live outside of my commercial responsibilities and desire for a stable financial life coming from art – whilst still allowing me to be fully immersed in my passions and serve society with my gifts.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My art practice is very consistent in my life. Two years ago I had a residency in Barcelona and exhibited my first solo show at a wonderful gallery, Espai Souvenir – in the Gracia district. To have a studio abroad the freedom to create whatever I want was both a struggle and a blessing. Nothing is ever open in Europe!!! LOL – But I did meet my 3D printing studio – whom I have gone on to create more work with. The exhibit itself was a deep personal success. Life is filled with roller-coasters, but I don’t have super rigid expectations for my artwork – so often I am enjoying the ride.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Art Director, based in LA who has 10 years of experience in entertainment and fashion. I create films, adverts and campaigns for brands big and small. My work is often driven by non-transactional concepts around myth, youth and desire. My graphic design sense has always guided me, as I was trained in the swiss-grid system and successfully apply these metrics to my client work. I work on projects with Guns n Roses, Adidas, Birkenstock, Wrangler, Keds, The NFL, Murakami, and the list goes on. What sets me apart if that I have been blessed to work on highly creative projects with people I love – and often this creates content and material that cuts through the riff raff.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Freedom, Desire, Respect.
