Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Levesque.
Hi Sierra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started taking music lessons and writing songs when I was seven years old, but I’ve always had a real love for rock music. I grew up listening to a lot of ’80s bands with my dad, which definitely shaped my taste and what I was drawn to early on. Around the age of twelve, I knew this was something I wanted to take seriously and not just treat as a hobby. That’s when I started performing anywhere I could — from bars to backyards and everything in between.
As I got older, I began building my career completely independently, releasing my own music, booking over 60 shows a year, and performing as much as possible across both Canada and the U.S. I eventually started spending a lot of time here in LA, eventually moving here in June, 2024 for some music internships and to further grow my career. I am also currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Songwriting program from Berklee College of Music.
Now, I’m a rock singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist (I play guitar, piano, bass, drums, and I sing and song write), and I just fully independently released my debut album, “NEW GENERATION”, in September, 2025. I’m now performing shows across LA and beyond, and working on my next releases!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been really lucky to have a strong support system so far, especially from my family, friends, and the connections I’ve made along the way. Their encouragement has helped me stay grounded and keep going, even during times when I’ve felt discouraged about my progress.
That said, the biggest challenge has been doing everything completely independently. Up to this point, my parents have essentially been my entire “team,” helping me talk through decisions and manage things behind the scenes. As an independent artist, it can be overwhelming to handle everything at once — from social media and show booking to website management, income tracking, and music releases. Building a proper team is something I’m really looking forward to, because having the right people in place would allow me to focus more on creating and performing while continuing to grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d say I’m most proud of the release of my debut album, NEW GENERATION. I fully wrote, recorded, and co-produced all 13 original songs, which were released on September 13th. It was also my first time creating physical vinyl and CDs, and I was honestly blown away by the response — the album has sold all over the world, and the support I’ve received so far has meant everything to me.
What really sets me apart in both my live and recorded performances is that I’m essentially a “one-woman band.” In the studio, I record all of the parts myself, and live, I perform solo while accompanying myself with drums, bass, and other instruments through my own backing tracks for all of my original songs. Being able to bring that full-band energy to the stage on my own has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey so far.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Santa Monica has so much to offer — from great restaurants and shops to beautiful ocean views that have been huge sources of songwriting inspiration for me. I also love how walkable it is, because walking everywhere gives me time to think through song ideas and pull inspiration from the people and little moments I notice along the way.
The only real downside is the traffic. Driving to Hollywood or Burbank — or honestly anywhere after about 3:00 pm — can be pretty tiring, especially since I make those drives often for shows.
