We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alejandra Iorgulescu. Check out our conversation below.
Alejandra , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, it’s been BuenosBeats. It’s a music project on YouTube that I’ve been building purely for the love of it—digging for tracks, mixing, and sharing sounds that move me.
Electronic music has been a lifelong passion for me. I’m 48 now, and I started listening and collecting it when I was 12. That passion ran deep enough that I even created my own digital label about a decade ago. When life happened, I had to walk away from that world, and for a whole decade I didn’t have any real music outlet in my life. Something was missing!
BuenosBeats came from a desire to reconnect with that part of myself. It’s not directly related to my Miles and Hikes project, but that’s actually what makes it so energizing. Spending time with music keeps me creatively balanced and reminds me that curiosity doesn’t have to live in just one lane. I love hiking, nature, and storytelling outdoors—but I also love losing myself in music, rhythm, and experimentation. Having different creative outlets makes me better at all of them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alex, the content creator behind Miles and Hikes, a travel and hiking website and YouTube channel where I share not just trails and gear, but experiences—helping people connect with nature in meaningful ways. Lately, I’ve been expanding my site with practical guides that make getting outdoors easier and less overwhelming, while also exploring other passions like music through my BuenosBeats project.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Back in 2021, during the pandemic, I drove across the country by myself. I’d never done a solo road-trip before, and I was nervous—but I knew I wanted to step outside my comfort zone. That trip ended up being transformative. I came back more confident, more curious, and with a deeper desire to explore on my own. Along the way, I even envisioned Miles and Hikes, my outdoors YouTube channel, as a way to share my travels and inspire others to venture out solo. That experience showed me the value of trust—in myself, in the journey, and in embracing the unknown.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, almost giving up isn’t in my vocabulary. I’m stubborn as hell—if I set my mind to something, I stick with it. Take Miles and Hikes, for example: it’s still a small YouTube channel, and some videos barely get any views, but I keep creating anyway, because what drives me goes far beyond numbers. That persistence has paid off in ways numbers alone can’t capture, and it’s taught me that sticking with something you love always leads to growth, even if it’s slow.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. What you see is what you get. I’ve never been interested in putting on a persona or polishing myself into something I’m not. I’m probably the opposite of politically correct, which might just be my Gen X showing, but I value honesty over performance. Whether online or offline, I show up the same way—real, unfiltered, and genuinely myself.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d stop working immediately and use all my saved resources to travel. It’s actually still the plan—but giving life an expiration date makes the idea feel more urgent and real. I’d spend those ten years exploring, experiencing, and soaking up as much as possible, without holding back.
