Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryuji Yamakita.

Hi Ryuji, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In the landscape of Japanese-American entertainment, few creators embody innovation, cultural storytelling, and quiet determination like Ryuji Yamakita. Known among collaborators as an “entertainment instigator,”

Yamakita seamlessly blends the worlds of film, stage performance, and live cultural events—becoming an increasingly indispensable figure in Los Angeles’ creative community.

Though humble in conversation, his resume reveals a decade-long pursuit of visionary projects that continue to redefine Japanese action drama for global audiences.

In 2024, Yamakita premiered his two-part feature film series,
Bond of Justice: Kizuna — Part I: Encounter and Part II: Judgement, at the historic Montalban Theatre in Hollywood.
Today, the Bond of Justice series is being prepared for worldwide distribution.

For Yamakita, entertainment is not just performance—it is cultural diplomacy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yamakita came back to U.S. in 10 years of working on entertainment business such as theatre stage play, TV show, film division as an actor and producer in Japan after graduating from California State University, Long Beach, Theatre Arts major.

He has built a career without connections in Los Angeles.
The hardest struggling for him has might be budget of production.
He produced 2 theatre stage play with 30 cast and 10 staff crew.

Serving as producer, writer, director, choreographer, and principal cast member of his film, “Bond of Justice: Kizuna”, Yamakita poured nearly 10 years into developing the films—from conceptualization to editing.

As the filming gradually came to an end, Sonny Chiba noticed the situation, then he finally joined as friendship appearance cast to make the film better quality of the story.

Ryuji Yamakita is a visionary Japanese-American filmmaker, stage director, and producer. Known as an “Entertainment instigator”, he has spent over a decade creating films, stage plays, and cultural events that bridge Japanese traditions with modern cinematic and live performance innovations.

His work has become indispensable to the Japanese-American cultural scene in Southern California, and he is widely respected for his humble leadership and relentless creative drive.

The project also carries deep emotional significance:

Bond of Justice: Kizuna became the final film appearance of Sonny Chiba.
Chiba, moved by Yamakita’s relentless dedication, personally contributed ideas for action sequences and story adjustments.

Chiba’s famous encouragement passed down from the master director Kinji Fukasaku—
“Ryuji, shoot as much as you can even any cut. The time will come when you’ll use them for editing”
—became Yamakita’s guiding motto.

Today, the Bond of Justice series is being prepared for worldwide distribution.

In 2025, he introduced a new hybrid production at OC Japan Fair titled Jidaigeki (historical period drama) Pursue—a live-action sword-fighting drama set in 1642 Japan, merging screen projection with on-stage combat.

Yamakita’s influence extends across major Japanese cultural festivals in Southern California. He has contributed as a producer, director, operation manager, and casting manager for:

● Japan Family Day – Tokyo City Cup (Santa Anita Park)
● OC Japan Fair (40,000+ attendees)
● Rising Japan Music Fest

His fingerprints are on nearly every major Japanese cultural event in the region—making him a critical bridge between Japanese traditions and U.S. entertainment audiences.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People are mostly film crew and event staff. When I shoot the film, crew join as camera operator, make-up artists, and also at the event, my assistants follow my direction to go through to the wrap to support.
They learn the movement of the production at the same time to improve themselves.

My producers are help and support how my situation well and care about my mentality and emotion during the the long terms of the shooting.

When I do production, people who own the location let me use it for no charge because they are the best friends and want me to make the film succeed.

My other supporters sponsor the goods such as movie official T-shirts and caps to make.
