Community Highlights: Meet Yasmin Vasquez of YVZ CREATIVE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmin Vasquez.

Hi Yasmin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for having me! I’m a first-generation graduate from Cal State LA with a background in business, marketing, and communications. This is an important part of my story (I promise) because while my parents always emphasized higher education, it was their support, their example of honest work, and their endless sacrifices that made it possible for me to get there. I’m deeply grateful to them for encouraging me to pursue freedom creatively, professionally, and in life.

Their question was never, “Do you want to learn and grow?” It was always, “What do you want to learn, and where or how are you going to do it?” while cultivating education within the household as well. Because of that mindset and practice, I stayed curious from a young age and continuously sought out opportunities to learn. From music and dance to tutoring and leadership, I said yes to experiences that pushed me to develop new skills while quite literally putting myself out there.

A few years after graduating, after struggling to find the right fit in my job search and feeling the sense of urgency that 2020 brought on due to COVID, I decided to take the leap. In 2021, I turned my part-time freelancing in brand strategy and website projects for small businesses into my full-time focus. Nearly five years later, I now get to work closely with early-stage entrepreneurs through one-on-one support, structured coursework, and accessible tools that help them find clarity and take intentional action toward building their ventures.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most definitely not, and although it may sound cliché, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Entrepreneurship is a never-ending learning curve. There’s always something new to adapt to, to learn, or to pivot through. The road itself reflects that, and while it can be challenging, it also serves as preparation.
Remember when I mentioned that my choice of major would be important to the story? Well, even though I thought I had it figured out, it turns out I didn’t. Despite completing internships and choosing a field and industry I wanted to pursue, landing a job wasn’t easy, and neither were the first few years of running my business.

There’s been a lot of trial and error along the way. Expanding services, then limiting them, and learning to be okay with that process. More than anything, I’ve learned to embrace pivoting when it means being of service in the best way possible, not just in the way I think I’m expected to show up.

Thankfully, what I consider my dream opportunity and true calling found me. I was recruited to become an instructor for Rising Tide Capital’s Community Business Academy in partnership with LIFT Los Angeles. Nearly three years later, I’ve learned just how valuable clear frameworks, group learning, and community support can be. Turns out, my parents were right. Structure helps people feel grounded, while still allowing room for creativity, growth, and freedom of expression.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
After nearly five years of serving primarily Spanish-speaking small businesses through hands-on projects like branding, copywriting, and website design, YVZ CREATIVE has evolved to focus on something just as important: hands-on knowledge. I’m currently putting the final touches on my first workbook of the year for new entrepreneurs, designed to help them quiet the outside noise, gain clarity, and feel empowered to take action, launch their ideas, and see what they can become.

Alongside creating tools, I continue to teach and facilitate Spanish-language business courses and workshops through nonprofit organizations along with continuing with one-on-one guidance. Education and access have always been central to my work, and I’m proud to support entrepreneurs who are often overlooked or under-resourced.

Across everything I do, my goal isn’t to offer one-size-fits-all solutions, but to help people strengthen their thinking and decision-making. I focus on practical frameworks that build clarity and confidence while honoring lived and personal experience.

At the end of the day, what sets my work apart is my commitment to helping people stay aligned with their values while building businesses that are sustainable and truly reflective of their vision and goals. In many ways, that approach mirrors how my parents supported me and continue to do so today.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Whether your life plan feels clear or you’re still figuring it out, stay curious, ask questions, and genuinely connect with people. Trust that life will bring the right opportunities at the right time, and let your values guide you along the way.
