Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Rauh.
Hi Brian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Southern California and graduated from Laguna Hills High School in 2009. I went to Chapman University where I played baseball and pursued a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Leadership.
I played three years at Chapman where I had a 30-1 record, 5 saves, and a career 1.78 ERA and was a 3 time 1st team All American and 2010 National Pitcher of the Year. I was voted Team Captain my junior year and led the team to a second place finish in the 2011 NCAA DIII College World Series. I was drafted his junior year in the 11th round by the Washington Nationals Organization and played in their system for 5 years making it up to AA.
Multiple back surgeries ended my playing career but I never lost my love for the game. I wanted to give back and build something where I could pass my passions down to the next generation and use my experiences to help guide them.
Immediately after my playing career finished in 2017, I began a corporate job and was there for 3 years. I would work from 7am-4pm and then go train my athletes from 5-9pm every night. Eventually it got to the point where my fun “side gig” was getting too big and that’s when I went full time into it and B Rauhty Baseball was born, a baseball private training business for youth level athletes all the way up through high school focused on helping athletes with all the physical, mental, and emotional challenges that they may face.
Now, we have 2 locations in Laguna Niguel, right off Avery and the 5 freeway. We have 6 instructors. We are an approved vendor for 8 different charter programs so homeschool kids come train in the morning/early afternoon and kids who go to school come in the afternoon/evening times. We also have a batting cage fully equipped with a Hack Attack Pitching machine, an Automatic Feeder, and a Hittrax so athletes can come get their work in on their own and get useful data driven feedback.
B Rauhty Baseball partners with local little leagues where we run clinics for them and we also run summer and winter camps.
The support we have received from our great families and kids has been amazing and they have helped build this into what it is now. We couldn’t be more grateful.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, just like anything there are always ups and downs. We’ve had to relocate a few times because one owner sold the building, another retired and wanted the building for something else. So having to go out and find a location for us was extremely difficult. Dimensions are important because we need the length to be at least 65 feet long and need the ceiling to be at least 14 feet high so that automatically rules out certain buildings. Luckily we found the right building, went through the permitting, and built it out how we wanted.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I personally specialize in training pitchers. We have other instructors that work on hitting, catching, fielding, etc
We give all our athletes 1-on-1 attention so we can really work on specific movement patterns, their approach, their mental side. Baseball is a failure sport which makes it very difficult for young athletes to stay confident, make adjustments, and move on quickly. Our ability to teach the athletes how to think and how to adjust is what separates us from others. All of our trainers have professional and/or collegiate experience so they know what it takes to play at the next level. We preach work ethic, resiliency, and mental toughness.
We also genuinely care about each athlete and what is going on in there lives. Being able to relate to them and be mentors for those struggling with school, sports, relationships, things at home, etc is also important to us. Because we know that one day, sports ends for all of us and we want to help the younger generation turn into quality human beings that are successful in life with whatever they do and have the determination, toughness, and resiliency to go after their dreams.
What I am the most proud of is the relationships that I still have with these “kids” who I trained when they were younger all the way through college and are now awesome young men. Watching them succeed in sports and in life is what it’s all about.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have 1 favorite memory but my favorite ones were all the baseball trips we took as a family, Vegas, Arizona, New York, etc. My parents gave my brother and I every opportunity to chase our dreams and were our biggest fans. I couldn’t be more appreciative of them.
