Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Mattoon.
Hi Aly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I taught at some amazing Pilates studio’s and rented studio space when I moved to LA in 2010. I always knew that I wanted to do my own thing and it was a progressive endeavor as I found more autonomy and entrepreneurship each year. The stars aligned almost three years ago when I found the perfect commercial space for my business to thrive. I couldn’t be more proud of the community and team that has come together in this incredible space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road and owning my own business continues to have its challenges. One of the biggest struggles was when I was in transition looking for my own commercial space. Luckily a friend was able to help me out but I was essentially without a studio to see my clients in and this was a very stressful time. I love that my fellow teacher friends are so supportive of one another and are able to help
each other out. I will say this challenge was what I needed to find my own studio so challenges can truly lead to great things.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I teach Pilates but it feels like so much more as I’m pulling from decades of movement experience, knowledge, and interpersonal skills. My business is unique because it’s small. It feels like a friends and family studio where everyone benefits from the warm friendly atmosphere. I’m most proud of the positive energy and community I’ve brought together. I think my small class sizes and down to earth style sets my business apart. I love and care about my clients so much and we have a lot of fun.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would like to expand but in a way that would stay true to my small high quality personable business model. I’m not sure what expanding looks like yet but I am excited to explore a possible Pilates wellness retreat. I’ve teamed up with some other amazing wellness professionals and would like to work on more collaborations with them.
