Today we’d like to introduce you to Petra Reeves.
Hi Petra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m Petra and I’m the owner and lead planner of Kalea Events. I never actually planned on being in the wedding industry — I started out working in corporate HR, spending my days managing policies, procedures, and safety trainings. I loved the structure and order of that world, but I always felt this pull toward something more personal and creative. I wanted to serve people in a way that felt meaningful — to be part of some of the most important moments in their lives, not just their workplace.
In 2021, I coordinated my first wedding and instantly knew I had found the thing that lit me up. Weddings combined everything I loved — organization, logistics, design, relationships, and creating an atmosphere where people feel seen and celebrated. That’s when Kalea Events was born.
Since then, it’s been such a beautiful journey. I’ve had the honor of working with incredible couples and helping them feel completely free to enjoy their day — not stressed or running around. I’m detail-obsessed by nature, but my heart for this work is deeper than timelines and décor. Weddings are the beginning of a family legacy — a moment where two people say “this is the person I choose, forever” — and getting to witness that is truly a privilege.
I believe your wedding day should feel exactly like you — not a production you’re performing in, but a celebration you’re fully present for. That’s why Kalea exists: to hold the details, so our couples can hold the memories.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Balancing Kalea while still working full-time was challenging — late nights, weekend weddings, and learning everything as I went. I also battled self-doubt and comparison, but discovered that my strength is the heart-centered, personal way I serve. Learning boundaries and valuing my work has shaped me into a stronger planner and business owner.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Kalea Events, I specialize in wedding planning that is deeply personal, intentional, and tailored to each couple’s story. My role is part logistics expert, part designer, and part emotional support system — because a wedding isn’t just an event, it’s the beginning of a family.
What makes my work meaningful is being able to give couples the gift of presence. I handle the behind-the-scenes chaos — vendor communication, timelines, cueing the ceremony, flipping spaces, problem-solving — so my couples can slow down, actually breathe, and enjoy the day they’ve dreamed about.
I’m most proud of the way I serve. I don’t believe in cookie-cutter weddings. I want your day to feel like you, not a production you’re performing in. Whether it’s a Western-themed celebration, a romantic garden ceremony, or a simple backyard wedding full of heart — my goal is to create an experience where people feel loved, honored, and celebrated.
At the end of the night, when a couple says “we didn’t worry about a single thing” or “that was the best day ever,” that is the greatest measure of success for me.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m actually dyslexic, so I listen to all my books on Audible — yes, even the Bible — which has made reading feel fun and accessible for me. Some of my favorites are Pride and Prejudice (which I will never get tired of), the entire Harry Potter series, and of course, the Bible. I always have at least one book in my ears during long drives between venues or while designing timelines.
For podcasts, I have a pretty balanced mix! I love Murder With My Husband for true-crime storytelling, The Bible Recap for daily grounding and faith, and Armchair Anonymous — which is absolutely hilarious and perfect if you need something to make you laugh on a long road trip.
