Rising Stars: Meet Kristina Perez of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Perez.

Hi Kristina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to Los Angeles back in 2021 to attend a two year conservatory acting program called the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through my experience there I was able to really learn and respect the craft of acting. I had the privilege of meeting so many other talented actors during that program and discovered more things about myself as well. After graduating in 2023, I spent a year of auditioning, and learning how to be a young adult in LA. That’s certainly not easy but it’s definitely a process that only made me stronger and realize what I wanted to do more of as an artist. I co-produced, created, and acted in my own short film in 2024 with the help of talented, hard working, creative individuals. I now am currently attending a CSU to further my education in film and writing and am currently co-producing and writing another short film called, “Invisible Strings”. We are currently in pre production and cannot wait to share this beautiful story with the rest of the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a young adult in LA and pursuing a career in the industry is definitely a difficult journey. It’s auditioning for roles hoping you’ll get that one part, it’s working two part time jobs so you can survive and pay rent, it’s writing stories that you hope can one day connect with others just as much as it has connected with you, its going through this journey with so many fears, tears, and lessons but also learning how to love every step of the way. This journey isn’t easy. But it’s something I hope to look back on one day and be proud of.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a transfer student at a CSU and have been dipping my foot in writing more. While I was studying at my acting school back in 2o21, one of the things I would do to connect with a character I was playing or become more in tune with my own emotions was to write poetry. It became a sacred space. It was a space for me to just simply let go and feel. When I created my first short film, “The Duet” I had the privilege of learning from my dear friend Karyante Franklin who is a writer. I learned the process of what it takes to become a writer for film and soon discovered it was something I wanted to do as well. The magic of connecting my love for poetry and storytelling has become something I thoroughly enjoy doing. I am currently writing my first script for my another short film of mine called, “Invisible Strings”.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that never fails to surprise someone is that I am a military child. I have grown up and visited so many places such as Germany, Korea, Texas, and Paris for example. I am grateful for being able to discover and learn from the many different cultures I encountered but it also wasn’t always easy having to move around and constantly say goodbye as well. But it built resilience and experience.
