Exploring Life & Business with Hayley Carr of Zipti Bedding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Carr.

Hi Hayley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hayley Carr was named after Oscar winning actress, Hayley Mills. Coincidently, at age 11, after seven productive years in theater, commercials and television — Hayley was cast as her daughter in the Disney film BACK HOME. She also received rare, “introductory” billing for the World War II drama, just like Hayley Mills did at the same age. Critical acclaim for BACK HOME helped win Hayley the role of James Caan’s daughter in Bette Midler’s film, FOR THE BOYS, then Richard Crenna’s in the CBS movie of the week, A PLACE TO BE LOVED.

With over 30 commercials, print ads in TIME MAGAZINE, a win on STAR SEARCH and starring roles on THIRTYSOMETHING, ALICE, HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN and BAYWATCH, Hayley was handpicked by NBC’s Brandon Tartikoff for his series, ACT II, and by Aaron Spelling for his weekly cop-drama, HOPE DIVISION.

When it came time for Hayley to transition from child actress to an adult, she looked for roles that challenged her, starring with Paul Bettany and Olivia Williams in the dark comedy MOOD SWINGERS, a film based on the 1975 novel by legendary British author, Martin Amis.

Hayley was also given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform as the comedic legend John Cleese’s sidekick, live, with fellow Python Eric Idle in The Prince’s Trust Comedy Gala: WE ARE MOST AMUSED for HRH King Charles III’s birthday. It was attended by HRH King Charles III, HRH Camilla, Queen consort and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

More recently, Hayley has added the titles writer, producer and creator to her credits with her first pilot, a comedy called UTOPIA, having been optioned by the BBC and her first feature, a Christmas film, B & B Merry playing on TV this Christmas.

Hayley also owns the company Zipit Bedding and this is their story:

The story of Zipit Bedding began when Jennifer MacDonald, a former advertising executive and mom of three boys, was tired of the daily struggle of getting her kids to make their beds. Then one day, while hosting a sleepover, she had an “Aha!” moment. In the morning, she watched her youngest son and his friends simply zipping up their sleeping bags and “Voila!” the once messy room was clean! She quickly realized that by combining the ease, fun and simplicity of a sleeping bag, with the look and feel of stylish kid’s bedding, she would be able to solve her problem AND finally put an end to the age-old battle between parents and their kids!

Jennifer sought the help of her sister, Hayley Carr, an entrepreneur and inventor-at-heart, to develop the product.

A rough sketch of a comforter attached to a fitted sheet via zippers drawn on a napkin, countless hours of hard work, a 401K invested and several prototypes later, Jennifer and Hayley were finally ready to debut their patented one-of-a-kind, innovative and time-saving product to 8 million + viewers on ABC’s Shark Tank!

I’m also a vegetarian and own a t-shirt company called S.F.E.A. that makes money for my animal charities,

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With my acting and writing career, it’s definitely been a “never give up,” kind of journey. After having left home at fifteen, I was vitally alone in my acting pursuit but I just kept going. I worked so many jobs to help pay the rent whilst auditioning but after years of acting jobs I finally switched to writing. I had some early luck with writing, with my series Utopia. It got optioned by the BBC. After that I realized, that writing and creating was what I wanted to do for a living.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We sell zippered bedding products for kids! What sets our Zipit Bedding sets apart from the competitor is we have cool zippered side pockets AND what I’m really proud of are the Yoobeez Charms I created. These charms let kids accessorize and personalize their Zipit Bedding sets – think Jibbitz for Crocs. We also have some glow-in-the-dark sets that are so much fun!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I loved to perform, would sing songs from the movie Annie, and my mom said I was always in a good mood. I never liked there to be any kids ever left out on the playground, I loved playing outside, riding my bike and swimming in the pool. I’m also a huge animal lover.
