Daily Inspiration: Meet Vivian Potter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Potter.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career in K–12 education, where I spent nearly 2 decades serving families and students. I began as a Spanish teacher, moved into school leadership as an assistant principal and principal, and eventually stepped into district-level roles supporting campuses on a larger scale. I loved the work and the impact, but everything shifted when I became a mom.

While I was pregnant with my first daughter, I realized how much support new parents truly need and how isolating early motherhood can feel. When I found New Mom School, it was a complete game changer. I’m an older mom and I found more support and community than I ever expected. The support, education, and connection I experienced completely reshaped my perspective on what families need during the postpartum period. The impact was so profound that it changed my career path entirely. With the support of my husband, I decided to take a leap, become a franchisee, and bring this community to my own areas. I opened New Mom School Los Alamitos in February 2025, and I’m now working toward opening our Redondo Beach location in 2026. It’s been the most meaningful and rewarding chapter of my professional life, helping new moms feel supported, empowered, and never alone.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. Shifting careers in my 40s was a major decision especially after I had already committed to being a stay-at-home mom. What I didn’t expect was to find an entirely new calling in my 40s, one that felt even more aligned with who I am today.

Becoming a mother changed my mission in life. Supporting new moms, building community, and creating spaces where families feel seen and cared for became my passion. I realized how critical the early stages are, not just for babies but for the entire family unit. When parents feel supported, communities are stronger. Happier families truly do make healthier generations.

There really needs to be a mindset shift. As a society, we pour so much energy into what’s best for the baby, but we often overlook the wellbeing of the mother. Postpartum care doesn’t end at 6 weeks. In reality, that’s just the beginning. Moms need ongoing support, connection, and guidance long after that 6-week check-up.

Stepping into this work meant redefining who I was, taking a risk, and trusting that the path would unfold. And while there were challenges, every single one reaffirmed why this work matters. Helping new moms feel held, understood, and supported has become the most meaningful work of my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At New Mom School, I get to blend all the pieces of my background into the work I do today. At my core, I’m someone who loves bringing people together. Community building and networking has always been one of my strengths, whether it was in a school or district setting or now within the world of prenatal and postnatal care. Even though I’m no longer working in K-12, my background in education deeply informs the way I lead, teach, and support families. Teaching our classes allows me to use the instructional skills I developed over years as a teacher and administrator and now I get to apply them in a setting that feels incredibly personal and meaningful.

And of course, saying that I love babies and children is an understatement. They’ve always been at the heart of the work I do. I’m especially proud of the community we’re building at New Mom School Los Alamitos and soon to be Redondo Beach. They are spaces where moms feel supported, where friendships form naturally, and where families truly thrive. I’m thankful every day for my oldest daughter, because she’s the reason I found New Mom School in the first place. She opened the door to this entire chapter of my life.

What sets me apart is my cultural background and the perspective it gives me. As the daughter of immigrants, and someone who speaks Korean and Spanish, I understand the power of identity, representation, and rewriting our own stories. I know what it means to navigate multiple cultures, and I bring that lens into the work I do, creating spaces where all moms feel welcome, understood, and supported.

At the end of the day, my work is about connection. Helping new moms feel less alone, empowering them with knowledge, and building communities that will continue to impact families for generations. That’s what I’m most proud of.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many meaningful ways people can work with us, collaborate, or support what we’re building at New Mom School. I see our studio as a true hub for all things prenatal and postnatal care. Pregnancy usually begins with medical providers (OBs, midwives, doulas) and we serve as the bridge that carries families from pregnancy through birth and well into postpartum.

We partner with a wide range of experts who specialize in everything from pelvic floor health, lactation, infant development, and maternal mental health to sleep, nutrition, and movement. These experts join our classes to teach, guide, and support parents in ways that complement their medical care. I’m always open to meeting new professionals who are aligned with our mission and want to pour into new families.

For individuals and businesses who want to support us, word of mouth is incredibly powerful. Sharing our classes, referring expecting or new moms, or simply talking about the impact of community in early motherhood helps us reach the families who need it most.

Our goal is to create a connected, collaborative ecosystem of care, one where moms feel supported from pregnancy through postpartum and babies grow up in stronger, healthier communities. Anyone who shares that vision is welcome to collaborate with us.
