Meet Kait MacLeod of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kait MacLeod.

Hi Kait, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my brand very organically, simply from a love of clothing and a desire to create things in a more thoughtful way. After studying fashion and working behind the scenes at several brands in Los Angeles, I began to really understand both how creative and how wasteful the industry can be. That contrast is what pushed me to start something of my own.

Kait Macleod began with a few small, made-to-order pieces produced locally, funded mostly by my own savings and a lot of late nights. In the beginning, I handled everything myself from development and production to packing orders on my bedroom floor. Even now, we’re still a very small brand, which allows us to stay close to every detail and every customer.

Today, the brand continues to grow through community, collaborations, and a strong focus on giving back. I’m still deeply involved in every part of the process and still learning every day. I feel grateful to be building something slowly, intentionally, and with real heart behind it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s honestly been the opposite of smooth. Building everything from the ground up while self-funding and figuring out the business side as I go has been really challenging. For a long time, I was doing everything on my own from creative to production to the logistics, and there were many moments where it felt very overwhelming and uncertain.

I had zero prior experience in the business side of things, and not always knowing if I’m making the “right” decisions is something I still navigate daily. That uncertainty can be tough, but those same challenges are also what make it so rewarding. Every step forward feels truly earned, and even on the hardest days, it’s still something I’m genuinely happy and grateful to be building.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Kait Macleod is a sustainable brand that produces in small batches using high-end materials like silk, merino wool, and organic cotton. Everything is made with a lot of intention, from selecting the fabric to refining each design, and that thoughtfulness is at the core of every piece we create.

We recently hosted a virtual bake sale with all of the baked goods proceeds donated to Baby2Baby and She Is Hope LA, which was incredibly rewarding and really special to be a part of. It felt like such a unique way to give back and connect our brand to something bigger than just clothing.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
More than anything, I’m always hoping to continue growing our community in a really meaningful way. I love connecting with other sustainable and ethical brands, creatives, and people who care about where things come from and how they’re made. This journey can feel very small and personal at times, and that’s something I really cherish.

If anything here resonates, I truly welcome anyone to reach out, connect, collaborate, or simply say hello. I’m so grateful for every person who supports small, intentional brands, and I’m excited to keep building alongside people with similar values.
