Rising Stars: Meet Destiny Mounce of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Mounce.

Hi Destiny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I discovered my love for acting through theater.
I was cast as Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka Jr in the 7th grade. That was my debut, if you’ll say. That changed everything. To my peers, I was probably taking it way too seriously. To me, it was an awakening. The first place I felt like myself. Even if I was playing somebody else. I was the most me I’d ever been.

I started pursuing acting from then on. I did it through highschool and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from the New York Film Academy this past May!

Now,
My days consist of scene study, script analysis, random accents, and commercial auditions. What I’ve learned on my journey is far beyond words. I have learned to create, to listen, to nurture, and to do my craft.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a completely smooth road. Acting has taught and shown me patience. For myself, and for the world. Life is full of surprises and to expect smooth sailing often creates more turmoil.

I’ve dealt with many things that have made me question myself and my path. Everything from mental block and insecurity to loss and disappointment. Through this, I still was always sure the stage or the set were where I wanted to be. It lit the fire to try harder and get stronger, as a person and an actor.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actor and a poet! I do both theater and film. In my final year of college, I was in a production of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov. I was cast as Arkadina. She is so complex and wise in a twisted way. She is legendary role and has been done by many greats. I’m so honored to have gotten to play her so early in my years. I’m excited to visit her again later in life. I’d say my true specialty is heightened language roles. I hope to put out a poetry book in the next year or so!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m more of a homebody than it might seem! I love to stay home with my cats, Beans and Auggie, and eat ice cream while reading or listening to music!
