Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Park.
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After graduating from Ringling College of Art and Design with a degree in Computer Animation and completing my thesis film, I moved to Los Angeles, where I was soon contacted for freelance work in storyboarding, editing, and animation. During this time, my thesis film Snow Dog was selected for multiple screenings including CTN and Silverlake Shorts curated by Netflix and received numerous awards through IMDb-qualified festivals such as Oniros, The Rookies, Hollywood Best Indie Film Awards, and many more.
As I continued to showcase my strengths in storyboarding and animation, I was offered a full-time position at Skybound Entertainment, known for their hit American adult animated superhero television series, Invincible. There, I worked directly under Emmy Award–winning animator, artist, and director Seung Eun Kim, contributing to cinematics from early development through final delivery. Leveraging my ability to also speak both Korean and English fluently, I effectively communicated across teams and supported production needs throughout the pipeline.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to where I am now was anything but smooth. Looking at my resume, it might seem as though opportunities were handed to me on a silver platter, landing freelance work right out of college and securing a position in the animation industry within a year of graduating. But in reality, every step required extensive searching, networking, and constant skill development. There were many moments of anxiety and uncertainty about the future, but I kept moving forward. Every day, I opened LinkedIn, reached out to people, and listened to their stories about how they built their careers. I researched their paths, learned from their experiences, and attended events across Los Angeles to meet artists and grow my network.
The more I connected with others and continued to strengthen my craft, the more opportunities opened up. Ultimately, that persistence led me to the moment when Skybound offered me a position to contribute to their cinematics team.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I support both production and artistic stages within the animation pipeline. Working directly under Director Seung Eun Kim, I assist with editing his storyboards, timing out sequences, adding backgrounds, and gathering reference materials. With my ability to speak both Korean and English fluently, I’ve also played a key role in communication between our team and our partner studio, Studio Mir, an acclaimed Seoul-based animation studio known for its work on The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender. By leading meetings and helping bridge language and workflow gaps, I’ve been able to streamline communication between the artists and production teams. This has allowed ideas to be exchanged more efficiently and helped unify the storyboards as they come together into a cohesive whole.
What matters most to you?
What matters to me the most is the dedication you put into pursuing what you want to achieve. Hard work, persistence, and the willingness to keep improving are what truly make the difference. Continue building your portfolio, pushing your skills, and learning from top professionals. Seek feedback, take initiative, and create the kind of work you want to be known for because opportunities tend to find those who remain proactive. If you stay focused on what you love, it will happen. All it takes is patience, consistency, and determination. My advice is simple: don’t give up. Keep going, and the results will follow.
