We recently had the chance to connect with Romeiro (Rehd) Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Romeiro (Rehd), thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Currently, I’m being called to complete two music albums I’ve dreamt about for some years now. I’m working on an R&B/ Soul album that expresses my emotional side towards love and grief more in depth. Included in it will be my song “I Need Luv” which echoes my feelings I’ve expressed simply to love interests who I’ve jumped through hoops for yet they still for some reason didn’t understand what I was after. This album will speak to my years of yearning for affection while speaking on many of the struggles that come with along with everyday struggles in the present day. With that, I am constructing an album with a genre called “Neo-Spirituals”. This genre I’ve come up with is a mixture of Black Classical (Negro Spirituals) with a modern Soul update speaking on life experiences from my perspective. I’ve released one “Neo-Spiritual” song, “Run Brutis” which I plan to expound on with this new album.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a man of many crafts. My biggest dreams involve doing music. Thus far, I’ve released an EP (“Passion” – Rehd) and various singles ranging from Pop (“Hopeless Romantic” – Rehd) to Alternative Hip Hop (“Young Brotha” – Rehd) and more. I’ve had the pleasure of performing these songs at events in Los Angeles, CA and Charlotte, NC like Charlotte Pride (2021 & 2022) and DTLA Proud (2022). In a different expression of the arts, I favor modeling. I’ve had the pleasure of modeling for my production company (Black Excellence LLC) I started with my friend Vicky in 2018. I modeled as well as casted and directed a photo and video shoot series around the Los Angeles area with B.E.. We eventually took our series and turned it into a performance show which we had 4 successful shows presents at Cal State LA and a couple of Los Angeles high schools. I also take interest in things behind the camera. In 2022, I was able to direct and cast the music video for my R&B song, “I Need Luv”. I also did the video editing myself. I’ve done works in photography, photo editing and now learning about 3D animation. Lastly, I am aiding in the development of my oldest brother Anthony Hamilton Jr (Odii 8ight) with his new t-shirt business and website services coming soon with a creative approach to mental health called “Suck My Filth”.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents mainly taught me the most about hard work. My mother has always held down more than two jobs to give my brother and I a pretty decent livable upbringing while our father ventured to establish his music career. Through the ups and downs of life, she always pushed forward and never gave up even after my brother and I grew up and moved from home. My father has shown us what the meaning of determination is. Having won his very own Grammy, our dad, Anthony Hamilton has become a staple in the name of Rhythm and Blues. Til this day, I look up to him in admiration for all of his accomplishments. Without him, my journey to Los Angeles may not have happened. I’d like to add that the words of a man named Ze’ev has helped redefine my views of work and ways to go about things: Always chose the smart route, don’t over think and be mindful of my finances.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Giving to other’s needs before my own has wounded me for years. Time, finances, energy, words, I’ve given so much it barely left time for me to think of myself and find the joys of myself. This resulted in not living in my truth filled with regret and worry. It hurts me to only share a slice of who I am. I’ve worked to dissolve my old teachings in paying so much attention to others. I am currently healing everyday by making steps to do things solely for myself. Making advances on my albums and doing more modeling has been helping me heal. Along with that, dancing more at dance studios and pampering myself with skin routine and hot baths after a good gym session have been helping. Also, taking more note of financial literacy has been helping with my stress and getting me a step closer to my desires.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m very committed to completing my two albums. When making music, it takes me a minute to fine tune them. There are times when I don’t even write down anything until I’ve gone over it in my head multiple times to get the essence of what I’m conveying. Finishing these albums, I release words that speak from my inner thoughts which I don’t do often. I’m more of an extroverted introvert. Completing these bodies of work, I’ll be able to finally let it all out or at least a great portion.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What light inside you have you been dimming?
My artistic side has dimmed down a bit as time flies by. Bills, responsibilities, social life, it all can be a lot at times managing both the artistic and technical sides coupled with work and social life. Some poor decisions like financial & relationship mismanagement in the past made me play a lot of “Catch Up”. It feels strange but good to be able to dip my feet back into the creative world. I’m beginning to pay more attention to myself, my desires and needs to continue to allow my light to shine unlike before.
