Check Out Mckayla Fontanez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckayla Fontanez.

Hi Mckayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally born in Orlando, FL, I moved out to LA at 18 right after I graduated high school to pursue in acting. It was my old theatre teacher who sparked my curiosity for the industry as I honestly never really thought it was obtainable beforehand. Once out here, I attended and graduated from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and got signed with my current team almost immediately after being one of the top 10 winners for the Warner Bros. Television Actors In Training program! Since being signed I’ve been in countless commercials for Apple, Ford, E.l.f. Cosmetics and most recently, McDonalds! I’ve also been a part of multiple indie projects and continue to audition for roles that inspire me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been very smooth if I’m honest! You know, life happens and there were definitely some moments where I wasn’t too sure how my rent would get paid or when the next audition would come in but we HAVE to keep going! Life is what you make it and I expect to have a fabulous one! My dream sci-fi/fantasy bad*ss lead role is already on the way so I keep it groovy and keep it pushing!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Im an actor first and a model if the vibes feel right haha! I definitely gravitate towards more acting in dramas but there’s a very niche form of comedy that if the writing’s there, it’s my bread and butter. Truly love nothing more than being in that sweet pocket and making people either laugh or cry. I’m a bit of a crazy person when it comes to the characters I play. I build their world if it isn’t built for me and I think that’s reflected in the work I’ve done.
Recently I’ve been the face of an E.l.f. Cosmetics ad that has spread across the internet that I’m very proud of. If you want to search for it, I’m in a wheat field and there’s a talking pony. Absolutely ridiculous and hilarious haha!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’ve been listening to the “UnF*ck Your Brain” Podcast hosted by Kara Loewentheil, J.D. here and there and it’s seriously changed the game with how I process things and go about life. Highly recommend!
