Life & Work with Alexys Tiscareno of San Juan Capistrano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexys Tiscareno.

Hi Alexys, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi! I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. And although I was raised in a small town that thrived in country music, I fell in love with classical music at a very young age. That passion led me to pursue a degree in voice performance at UCLA, and a master’s degree at the Ecole normale in Paris. Now I work as a freelance opera singer! One of my most recent notable performances is in “Superhero” by Metro Boomin, which i sang live at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. This performance was one of my favorite projects to be apart of because I love meshing classical music with other styles. That is where my passion lies!
Now I’ spend my days trying to balance my love of music with my new marriage, our new baby girl, and my voice studio where I teach other young singers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The opera world can be super negative, and I’ve had many people tell me that I wouldn’t amount to anything. This is one of the many reasons I decided to open my own voice studio. I want to be a positive influence for anyone who wishes to sing. I have students from all walks of life and all ages.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Like I mentioned earlier, I love blending classical music with other genres. While I love opera, it can be a little stuffy and…unoriginal. I want to be apart of the artists that are breathing life back into classical music.

What makes you happy?
My family. I’m a new mother and it is hands down my greatest accomplishment. My husband and I just celebrated one year of marriage. He has always been my biggest supporter and the reason why I have overcome so much. One of my fondest memories is on our wedding day. I wrote my husband a surprise song as my vows with piano, string quartet, and background vocals . The song is called “Dear Features Husband” and will be released on all platforms soon.
