We’re looking forward to introducing you to Allison Levine. Check out our conversation below.
Allison, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
With my work and lifestyle, there really isn’t a single version of a ‘normal’ day. Some days I’m traveling, some days I’m running or attending an event, and others I’m at my desk all day. When I’m home, there’s more of a routine: I start my day with a cappuccino while watching the news and catching up on emails, then I head out for a workout, usually a swim, before settling in to work. When I’m traveling, I adapt to whatever the schedule requires. I actually like that variety; it keeps things interesting and reminds me to stay organized so I can make the most of wherever I am. I love the energy of travel and events, but I also appreciate the structure and focus that come with being home.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an event planner, wine educator, and writer with a passion for creating meaningful experiences around wine, travel, and culture. I am the owner of Please The Palate, a boutique agency specializing in marketing and event planning for the wine and spirits industry, working with wine regions around the world to organize events for the trade (sommeliers, retailers, importers, educators, and press) and consumers. I am also a freelance writer and blogger covering wine, food, and travel, and the U.S. host of the podcast Wine Soundtrack, where I interview winemakers and winery owners who share their stories, insights, and plenty of laughs in 30 questions. I founded The Festival of Undiscovered Grapes, which in just two years was named the #2 Best Wine Festival by USA Today 10BEST. At the heart of everything I do is connecting people through wine, travel, and storytelling.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Traveling the world has had the greatest impact on how I see life, and I believe education is continuous and never-ending. If I had to choose one moment that truly shaped my worldview, it was during college while studying abroad on Semester at Sea. Over three months, we traveled to nine countries, experiencing cultures vastly different from my own. One experience in India stands out: my friends and I met a rickshaw driver who invited us to his home to meet his family. He, his two wives, six children, and the wife of his oldest son all lived in a two-room apartment that also served as their kitchen and dining space. Despite having so little, they welcomed us to share a meal of chicken and fresh naan. The women and children stood around us while we (three women) ate with the men, which carried deep cultural significance. What struck me most was their generosity and warmth in the face of scarcity. That moment taught me the profound power of human kindness and hospitality, and it has shaped how I approach people, cultures, and experiences ever since.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Giving up isn’t really in my vocabulary. I am probably an eternal optimist. I am persistent and don’t like to quit; I can’t just walk away from something once I’ve committed to it, even if it would be easier to do so. Of course, there are moments when I feel like giving up, but I always push through and see things through to the end.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe the public version of me is the real me. Of course, I have private thoughts, quirks, and reflections I keep to myself, but I am authentic. I do not put on an act for people. I am genuine and true to who I am.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, absolutely. Praise and recognition are always appreciated, but I am my own internal critic. And, I do not like doing things half-heartedly; I give my best because that is all I know how to do, and I take pride in having my name associated with the work I create.
