Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Riches.
Hi Rob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From the beginning, I was fascinated by how training, nutrition, and discipline could completely transform the body. That passion pushed me into natural bodybuilding, where I went on to win multiple titles and establish myself as one of the leading names in fitness. Competing taught me not only about building muscle but also about resilience, mental toughness, and the importance of consistency—lessons that I’ve carried into every aspect of my career.
As my journey progressed, I began sharing my training methods and nutrition strategies with a wider audience through YouTube and social media. Over time, that platform grew into one of the longest-running and most recognizable fitness channels, reaching millions of viewers worldwide. My work has been featured in international magazines, and I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with major supplement and equipment companies, developing content, and educating others about how to train smarter, eat better, and live stronger.
Today, I’m based in Los Angeles, where I operate my own private training facility and production studio. This space has become a creative hub—not only for my personal filming and branded projects, but also for commercial shoots, television productions, and film projects that require a professional gym or kitchen setting. It’s a place where fitness and media meet, allowing me to merge my passion for training with my drive for high-quality production.
Ultimately, my story is about more than competing or creating content—it’s about helping others unlock their best selves. I believe in showing that with structure, balance, and dedication, anyone can achieve strength, confidence, and longevity. Fitness is the foundation, but the true goal is building a lifestyle that carries over into every area of life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but every challenge has shaped the path I’m on today. At 15, I fractured my shoulder while mountain biking, which forced me to slow down and eventually led me to pick up my first set of dumbbells. That injury became the catalyst for my passion in strength training, and from that point forward, I never looked back.
One of the biggest challenges in my career has been remaining natural and drug-free in an industry where shortcuts are common. While many have turned to performance-enhancing drugs, my focus has always been on health, longevity, and proving that true strength and fitness can be achieved through dedication, smart training, and proper nutrition. I’ve been fortunate to avoid major injuries over the years—aside from the occasional strain from pushing myself too hard—because I’ve always approached training with structure, discipline, and respect for my body.
Another challenge has been keeping pace with the constantly changing fitness and media landscape. I was one of the early adopters on YouTube, sharing long-form educational content, and as platforms shifted toward short-form videos, I had to adapt my approach. Even with those changes, my mission has remained the same: to educate, inspire, and motivate through quality content that stands the test of time.
Perhaps the greatest reward in facing these challenges has been meeting people from around the world who have told me how my content has motivated them to take control of their health and fitness. Those moments remind me that every obstacle was worth it, because it gave me the chance to help others transform their lives.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My professional journey has always been a blend of two passions: fitness and film. I studied film and media at university, with the original goal of becoming a cinematographer and working on music videos for outlets like MTV. What I couldn’t have predicted at the time was how those skills would eventually align with my other passion—fitness—and allow me to build a career that combines both.
Today, I produce and direct a wide range of sports and fitness content while still remaining active in front of the camera as a host, model, and trainer. I work extensively with Powertec Home Strength Equipment, not only producing their marketing and product videos but also contributing to the design and communication strategies behind their equipment. Over the years, I’ve also collaborated with many sports, nutrition, and health brands to create high-quality visual content that educates, engages, and inspires audiences worldwide.
In addition to brand work, I own and operate a private training facility and production studio in Los Angeles. It’s a space that serves multiple purposes: filming my own projects, producing commercials and branded campaigns, and providing a location for outside productions in need of a gym or kitchen setting. Being able to oversee both the creative and technical sides of production while also living the lifestyle I promote sets me apart from others in this space.
What I’m most proud of is being able to merge these worlds—fitness and film—into a career that not only sustains me but also allows me to impact and inspire others. Whether I’m behind the camera shaping the story, or in front of it delivering the message, I see every project as a chance to elevate the way fitness is experienced and shared.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that consistency will always win. I never had a coach or nutritionist guiding me—every competition I entered, every stage I stepped on was the result of trial and error, refining my approach, and constantly learning what worked for me. That process taught me not only how to train and fuel my body, but also gave me an in-depth understanding of fitness and nutrition that I carry with me today.
Another key lesson has been the importance of putting health first. Too often in the fitness industry, people chase short-term gains without thinking about the long-term impact. For me, it has always been about longevity, a better health span, and remaining fit, strong, and healthy for as long as possible. I’ll be 42 this year, and I feel as strong and capable as I ever have—if anything, I feel like I’m only just entering my peak years, which excites me for what’s still ahead.
Adaptability has also been crucial. I was fortunate to begin documenting my journey right when YouTube first launched, using my background in film production to capture my training and competition prep in ways that weren’t common back then. Over time, the industry has shifted to short-form content, and I’ve had to evolve with it—while staying true to my love of long-form, educational videos.
Of course, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve had to deal with criticism and negativity online, which at times can be tough to navigate. But I’ve also received countless messages from people around the world who’ve told me that my videos inspired them to take charge of their health and fitness. Those moments remind me why I do this—it’s not just about building muscle, it’s about creating a legacy that helps others improve their lives.
Ultimately, the greatest lesson is that if you stay consistent, keep health as your foundation, and share your journey authentically, you can inspire others in ways you never imagined. That impact is the legacy I hope to leave behind.
