Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Machuca.
Hi Brenda , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
MFE Services was founded in 2013 when my bff at the time was going to get married and told me that she’d like for me to marry them. Of course, I said yes and got to work. I did some research, paid some fees, and I was ordained.
Unfortunately, the wedding did not happen, so I thought to myself, “What do I do now? I’m ordained, paid the fees, so I just started letting family and friends know that I was available for weddings if needed.
It wasn’t until February of 2015 when a friend reached out and said she was getting married and wanted to speak to me about possibly officiating for them. We spoke, and she and her wife (they just celebrated 10 years together) hired me. After that, I decided to get more serious about it and built a website, started a social media page, and have grown since then. I have also added Notary Services and hope to add more in the near future.
Even though MFE Services was founded on the whim at the time, we have grown and worked with so many wonderful couples. We are here for the sole purpose of providing marital and civil unions for all those in love. We stand for equality, respect, and all love.
We are not a religious organization but a spiritual one. We stand for superior service, function, performance, and professionalism.
I am here to provide my clients with peace of mind. I work closely with all of them to help make their special day as memorable as possible, and I am always honored when they choose me to celebrate and solidify their union.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life isn’t always a smooth ride, my friends. I’ve had times when I didn’t book a wedding for months or even years. But I kept pushing myself to get my name out there online, on social media, and by asking friends and family to recommend me. I even created a YELP page to boost my traffic and signed up with a few other wedding vendor websites.
There were times when I wanted to throw in the towel, when I felt frustrated that I wasn’t getting enough weddings. I even felt hopeless and kept telling myself that it wasn’t worth it. But I was working hard on my 9-5 job to support my business, and if it wasn’t for that, I don’t think I would have made it. I was putting in more money into the business than I was bringing in, and I was working late nights, many late nights.
My frustration was slowly turning into resentment, and all I wanted to do was give up. For a short time, I did. It was getting so overwhelming to try and keep up with everything that I took a break to recharge and think clearly about whether this was really something I wanted to continue pursuing.
After a month or so, I decided that this is what I wanted to do because I loved it. I enjoyed being part of someone’s special day and getting to know the people they love the most. It’s still been a bumpy road from time to time, but that’s just how life is. I’m so grateful and honored to have been able to meet so many great people through what I do and i look forward to doing many more weddings.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MFE Services?
MFE Services is dedicated to serving all individuals, particularly the LGBTQIA+ community. As a member of this community, I am acutely aware of the significance of being heard and seen, especially during a wedding ceremony. It is paramount to create an inclusive and comfortable environment for all participants throughout the wedding process. I am intimately familiar with the discomfort that can arise from interactions with individuals or businesses that lack inclusivity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Numerous couples have expressed uncertainty regarding the process and whether they must adhere to societal norms or traditional practices. The answer is unequivocally no. My primary objective is to collaborate with them, providing guidance and support rather than dictating their actions. Their wedding should reflect their unique preferences and values, as it ultimately belongs to them.
I take great pride in ensuring that my couples feel comfortable and welcome throughout the process. Treating individuals with love and respect is not only a moral imperative but also a fundamental principle that I strive to uphold. By spreading awareness and cultivating kindness, we can collectively contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
**please see previous answer regarding the LGBTQIA+ Community and inclusivity.
