Check Out Proud Refuge’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Proud Refuge.

Hi Proud, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started as a singer songwriter. Moves to LA from Sacramento with a dream and iphone full of songs. From sleeping in my car and couch surfing eventually led to me writing some of the greatest music of my life. One thing I realized was that The journey is more important than the destination. I never lost faith. God began slowly connecting me to the right people which eventually led to my recording my debut project “The Ambassador” at Paramount studios in Hollywood which is set to release before the end of this year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve faced seasons where resources were scarce, but the vision was bigger than what was in my hands. There were times I felt overlooked, misunderstood, or boxed in by labels that didn’t reflect who I really am. As an artist with a Kingdom assignment, I’ve also battled the tension of staying authentic in an industry that often pressures you to compromise for clout or trends.

There were moments when I had to carry the weight of building a brand, funding projects, and leading a movement all at once, often with little support. I’ve had to navigate rejection, delays, and even doubt about whether the doors I was knocking on would ever open.

But every challenge has refined me. The setbacks have given me a deeper hunger, the struggles have built resilience, and the obstacles have sharpened my faith. Those moments taught me that I’m not just creating music—I’m building something that will last.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m more than an artist, I’m a cultural voice and a Kingdom ambassador. My music blends Afrobeats, hip-hop, gospel, and R&B into a global sound that carries both rhythm and revelation. I don’t just make songs to entertain; I create anthems rooted in testimony, truth, and authenticity that resonate from Nairobi to Sacramento and beyond.

What sets me apart is the way I merge artistry with ambassadorship. My lyrics are modern yet timeless, designed to inspire, convict, and unite. Beyond the music, I’m building movements—through DSOJ Records, Mountain Movers Club, and The Ambassadors collective—that empower people to wear their faith, live their purpose, and influence culture.
