Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Sines.
Hi Casey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in a sports loving family. I played volleyball, basketball, softball, and golf, but the sport that truly captured my heart was volleyball. I competed at the Division 1 level for both the University of Memphis and Butler University, where I earned Bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Digital Media Production. After college, I moved to Los Angeles and began a career in finance, but over time I found myself slowly following my passion back to fitness.
I now hold certifications in both personal and group fitness training, with specialties in cardio, strength, and agility training. I am also certified in running, rowing, strength, conditioning, cycling, TRX, and Rip training. Throughout the last near decade as a fitness professional, I’ve had the privilege of coaching for several top fitness platforms including FitXR, iFit with NordicTrack, FitBit, TRX, Aaptiv, Fabletics Fit, and more. Throughout this journey, my love of the community, movement, and the energy of the fitness and wellness space has only grown as I progress through different stages of life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe everyone’s path has bumps and unexpected turns along the way. For me, it was a knee injury that forced me to completely shift my perspective and change the way I train. I went from marathon training to struggling to walk without a limp. Both physically and mentally, the injury took a toll, but, like many of life’s challenges, it taught me a lot about myself and opened my eyes to new ways of approaching fitness. The path to growth is rarely smooth, but I think that’s what makes it meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about FitXR?
One of the companies I have the privilege of coaching with is FitXR, the #1 global virtual reality (VR) fitness app. FitXR specializes in rhythm-based VR boxing, combat, HIIT, and dance, where users punch targets and dodge cues to earn points and rewards. Our goal is to make fitness feel more like play, because not everyone loves going to the gym or joining a group class.
I coach boxing, combat, HIIT, and you can even catch me in a couple of sculpt classes on the app. As a coach, I aim to blend an athletic mindset with the joy I have for fitness. My hope is that every user leaves my class feeling empowered and ready to take on whatever life throws at them!
What I love most about FitXR is how time in the headset feels more like a game than a workout. From my very first class, I knew it was something different, new, and exciting. Stepping into a virtual world gave me two huge benefits. First, I couldn’t be distracted by anything else – no checking my phone, no looking at my to do list, no worrying about chores I haven’t gotten to yet… And second, I wasn’t focused on how I looked, I could just have fun. After my first boxing class, I walked away feeling like a real life superhero. That’s the feeling I try to bring to every class: no judgement, just movement and fun!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The fitness landscape is constantly evolving, with different modalities and styles moving in and out of popularity. In my view, we are shifting toward a more hybrid training method: something that blends physical and digital. You might have a gym membership and also complete workout classes on demand through your gym’s app. Or you go to a boutique fitness studio while also using a digital fitness platform at home. Or you may be an avid walker and play in VR. Any number of combinations exist, and I believe we’ll continue to see people mix and match. Just as we’ve grown comfortable with a “pick-your-own” menu of subscriptions, fitness is becoming another extension of that model.
When it comes to VR, we’re excited about the evolution of headsets that are designed with comfort and style in mind, eliminating many of the current pain points. We’re also encouraged to see VR gaining popularity in general. Beyond that, the future of augmented reality (AR) is where we see the next inflection point for spatial experiences, enhancing people’s day-to-day lives. Leveraging that technology for fitness has the potential to be truly game-changing, offering people more ways to stay active consistently.
