Check Out Ashton Pierce’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Pierce.

Ashton Pierce

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to LA from Chicago when I was 17 to attend USC. While I was at USC I minored in Music Business. Growing up, I always assumed I wanted to work on the business side of music rather than be an artist but I always wrote lyrics and melodies in my head. After graduating I decided I wanted to do the whole session songwriter thing and attended song writing camps to try to get placements with major artist. Somewhere along the way the music I wrote started to feel more personal and life experiences ultimately compelled me to write and record my debut EP “Under Pressure”–which I just released this summer.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an independent artist is not for the weak. When you’re doing everything yourself, naturally there’s a learning curve to both the creative and business aspects of making music. And the music industry is predatory on ALL levels of success. You’re forced to learn to adapt and acquire new skills along the way. But–Ironically, as you build those skills yourself you suddenly find yourself in rooms with people to help push your vision forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an R&B singer/songwriter. I like to say my music is mentally pop smoothed out on the R&B tip with a hip hop feel to it. I’m most proud of my first full length release “Under Pressure” which I think of as a coming of age story about hustling and heartbreak.

I think what sets my music apart from other’s is the storytelling–and the stories I’m telling. My song “The Player’s Club” is an aspirational anthem about a stripper turned movie star by “using what she got to get what she wants” (a quote I got from the movie ‘The Player’s Club’.
The next song on the album “Pressure” is an homage to all the hustlers and dreamers of the world, “we apply that pressure what we want we get

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Uhhh well since it’s the music industry anything can happen. Like for example, the number one on Billboard right now is by an AI girl group. I’m not sure exactly how much AI is going to affect music as we know it but it’s already causing a lot of big shifts.
