Check Out Melinda Salcido’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Salcido.

Melinda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born in Fresno, California, I began singing when I was 2 years old and shortly thereafter performing as well. Music has always been a huge part of my life. From elementary to college my musical experiences flourished where I eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue my professional career as a recording artist/singer/musician. Through these milestones I can now say that I am a Grammy and Latin Grammy Award winning artist who has had the privilege of not only accompanying artists on tours as a musician, but also headlining as a soloist at such venues such as the Hollywood Bowl. From my Mariachi roots, to Latin fusion, to American pop to a lead role in musical theater, I can still say that I have so much more to do. With my recent, first of many, single release of “Solo con verte” and being signed to 7th Avenue Records, I have now entered the realm of arranging and producing my own music. The future is very optimistic and I am excited for what is to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think a “smooth” road can exist with out bumps along the way. The music industry is very competitive, but also very political. Luckily, I have great friends that have become family who believe in me. They are very supportive and I am forever blessed and grateful for their love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from my super busy musical career, I am the Executive Director of a non-profit 501(c)3 in Sanger, Ca called SAM Academy. I also give private music lessons and have formed a youth Mariachi and youth Ballet Folklorico program from scratch. Trying to balance my jobs and being a full time mom/dad is very challenging, but I make it work! Sharing my love for music and my culture through my students is a reward in itself.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is waiting for my dad to come home from work EVERY day, hiding from him, him finding me and then giving me the BEST BIGGEST hug…I miss my dad dearly.
