Rising Stars: Meet Fabian Escobar of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Escobar.

Hi Fabian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My life changed at 18 years old, when I decided to cross the other side of the world; 8.000km. Born and raised in Guayana City, Venezuela. I grew up in a family of teachers and entrepreneurs, so I always had a curiosity to explore. I wanted to be a DOCTOR, a CHEF, a PSYCHOLOGIST, an ASTRONAUT, and the only profession that would allow me to do that was and it’s ACTING. That’s how, with a couple of theater classes in high school, I decided I wanted to be an Actor and Director. So, in the middle of the Covid pandemic, I went to the UK to study Film and Theater at the University, gaining great experience and meeting my other family far from home. Until, October 2024, when I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue my dream at Stella Adler Academy of Acting.

I must say that without the help of my parents Ricardo & Thaemis, my family, and friends, that 18-year-old Fabian wouldn’t have been able to pack his life into two suitcases and leave the country where he grew up. That’s why I have to thank them for their support.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe no path is easy, at least not mine. But it was bearable. Language was one of the struggles at first, English being my second language, but somehow people understood me. One day I could go without having a role, another day, taking classes with the great Venezuelan actress Gledys Ibarra, the Alliance Française, or interviewing an Oscar nominee; Edward James Olmos. Being away from home, was another challenge, I remember my parents asking me 10 times if I really wanted to be an Actor (also being the first one in the family). Those days when it was hard to get out of bed to go to set or class, I only thought about my family. What gave me the strength to continue my path, and a lot of faith that I didn’t see myself being anything other than an actor and director, I would say that university opened my eyes to the world, and my friends from more than 20 different nationalities.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have done more than 10 film projects and 2 music videos. Where I was acting, but also, I directed my first short film at 21yo, shot in the northwest of England, UK. I then directed, wrote and produced my second documentary short ”Hablemos Claro” with just an iPhone, which was selected to participate in the short film competition of the European Union in Venezuela. This informative documentary changed me, as it closely follows the life of people with AIDS, sexual health in Venezuela, and the Film set was a hospital.

My favorite part is working with friends or meeting people while I’m shooting. The human connection with the characters I play is very important, how I bring a character to life, how I connect with the testimonies. One day, while filming “Just Keep Practicing,” a short film I starred in, I remember finishing my scene and crying with everyone on set. Because what happened was so beautiful. My most recent work was with Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) where I helped the media department and the film “Mission Street” in which I starred. Now, I am working in the production team for a Shortfilm that follows the life of two Mexican immigrants in the United States.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Success” is doing what you love for life, and if that changes, you reinvent yourself and do something else you enjoy. I’ve realised people tend to see the negative side of life, but as someone who has been exposed to the world in different ways and explored several cultures, I can say that just being alive is a privilege. Just being able to go on set, write, or tell stories, makes me happy. Because I know I can make a difference in the life of someone who may be going through a difficult time.

Success is to be alive, not simply exist.
