Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Beamon.
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jessica Beamon and I am a mother of two. The name of the non-profit I created is Becoming Enriched Socially and Obtaining Stability also know as “Besos Corp”. I created this corporation because I am a survivor of violence. I was in an unhealthy relationship and my children witnessed me being verbally abused in my home. At Besos we support victims of domestic violence, sex trafficking victims and the re-entry community. By education and connecting them to jobs and housing. We serve ages 18-60 years of age . Our goal is to support women on their journey to becoming self sufficient.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When Besos was created my sole purpose was to serve my community. We started off with teaching a cognitive development course to educate people on life skills, shortly after we started cleaning the streets in south central Los Angeles. In this community many of the streets have trash along side of the corners due to illegal dumping and homeless population encampments. Besos organized and began the process of cleaning the neglected streets of South LA with hopes to cause a paradigm shift in our community. It shouldn’t be normal to see trash on the streets. 2023 was the year Besos Corp hosted our 1st. annual Women’s Wellness Retreat where we pour into the women of domestic violence and teach them self love, the importance of pouring into self, we provide free massages, educate on positive affirmations, and guest speakers are there to encourage them to be at the best versions of themselves. All this was done out of our own pockets without any assistance or grants. It was a struggle to do the work but our goal was and still is to elevate our community. With all odds against us and no financial support we have came together and made a negative in to a positive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work at 2 schools, a high school and middle school where I facilitate a life skills class for female students. This class is designed to build students self esteem and prepare them for the challenges of successfully completing high school. I am also at the school to offer students support with any obstacles they face with other students and also self. I conduct one on ones and also mediations between students. I am proud that when myself and my team started on this project in 2023, prior to that there were 4 homicides at the school and now there have been zero since we have intervened. Im honored to bring peace & pour into these students and as a result of that, lives have been saved. I have collaborated in a powerful movement known as the black and brown coalition of Los Angeles/ San Fernando valley where free food giveaways are conducted in hopes of positively uniting the black and brown communities. Ive been working on this project since 2020. We also collaborate with Feed The Streets, a group of south central residents that go to skid row every Thanksgiving to give back to the homeless community that resides on the streets of skid row.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
